Question about Gaggia Evolution Espresso Machine

1 Answer

It seems that the pump on my Gaggia Evolution is not able to draw the water into the machine - it is working but very weak. The mains power is strong and should be able to do it ... it seems that maybe the water pump is broken somehow even though it still makes a noise there is not enough suction. Is it possible to have a new water pump shipped out to me to replace myself - i am living in Afghanistan (doing humanitarian work) and need good coffee! Many thanks Dan

The pump does not run water through the filter head. It makes a noise and pumps the hot water back into the water tank

Almost certainly due to the reverse side of the brewhead being scaled up. The evolution has a recess on the reverse of the head that block causing no water to come out. Remove the head and clean it off.

My gaggia evolution leaks water while making coffee .It appears to be coming from inside the machine and leaks everywhere.I have disassembled the machine but i still can 't see where the water is coming...

There are many possible points that the leak can be.

All points of the water supply from water tank to the pressure pump then to boiler and finally to coffee group. All this are connected together with plastic or Teflon pipes with easy fit unions secure with clips

Gaggia evolution not producing coffee

One question before I make any suggestions: If you remove the shower screen and screw, do you get a nice flow of water or is it still steam?
If you get a nice flow of water, then check your screen hold it up to the light and you should be able to see through the tiny holes, if not, get a pair of needle nose pliers and being very careful hold screen over an open flame like the stove burner. The coffee will burn before the anything happens to the metal. When it is cooled screw into group and see if the flow of water is better.
If you get nothing but steam then it is time to descale the machine.

Gaggia Evolution Filtering Weak Coffee

Basing on personal experience (you can find more on Google probably), solutions are:

On percolated (filter) coffee machines:

Check water temp, if water temp is insufficient , most common is scale heating element , faulty element, faulty thermostat.
Check if water is dripping right at the center of the filter, if it is dripping on one side because the orifice is clogged, that can result in weak coffee.
Coffee blend not well distributed on filter basket.

On Espresso machines:

Check water temp, same as filter coffee machines (thermostat element, scale on heating chamber).
Ensure that coffee is filled correctly in the filter cup (fill at level), and well pressed.
Ensure that the coffee mixture that you are using is not too coarse, buy the apposite one for espresso.
Ensure that you are not leaving the machine brewing for a time that is too long, and Italian coffee cup is very small, approximately one regular shot.

On the hob moka pots (espresso, Moka and Bialetti type):

This are the trickiest ones, you need art and practice to get a good espresso with a Moka, but when you learn, the result is better than what you may get with an home electrical espresso maker.
The frame on the hob must be not too strong, and the mixture coarse but well pressed, with water at level tag, or you will get a weak coffee.
On Mokas a good strategy is keeping hob at minimum, and turning up the flame at top when coffee starts coming out.

French and turkish cafetieres:

Ensure that you put enough coffee, water hot enough, and that you left the infusion enough time to get a strong coffee.

Note: insufficient pressure and clogged lines on electric machines never give you a weak coffee, exactly the opposite.
Not pressed mixture always gives weak coffee, but too much pressed mixture may give you coffee with bad taste.

Machine Does not draw water into the boiler

I have had this same problem - it is due to an airlock in the boiler/tubes. Simple solution is to use a syringe or similar and gently force some water up the intake hose from the tank, then try the pump again.
