Question about Frigidaire GLTF1670A Front Load Washer

1 Answer

I have a Frigidaire GLTF1670A washer. When the washer goes into the spin cycle, I have noticed a progressively louder belt slipping sound. The washer is 7 years old. Do I need to replace the belt, or is there a tensioner I can adjust?

Disconnect the washer from the electrical supply then remove the screws shown holding the rear access panel to the washer’s rear panel and lift the access panel off.

Plug the washer in then start a loaded spin cycle to check for belt slippage and the motor operation itself.

Replace the belt if loose or slipping. Remove the belt by turning the tub drive pulley and rolling tI have a Frigidaire GLTF1670A - 38e9b2b.jpg the pulley.

Install the new belt in reverse order by wrapping it around the motor pulley and on one side of the tub drive pulley then turn the pulley to the other side in such a way that the belt wraps completely around the pulley. Secure the rear access panel back into position to complete the procedure.

Grinding noise before spin cycle

Good Morning John,

I see that you are hearing a grinding noise before the spin cycle in your Frigidaire washer, model# GLET1031CS0. A certain amount of "grinding" or gear sounds are normal in a heavy-duty washer. If you notice that the grinding sound appears to be getting louder, I suggest contacting either the manufacturer or your local authorized technician for further assistance. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

My fridgidaire washer is smoking and squealing

Hello Judy Ingram - From what you are describing it sounds like a motor failure or transmission failure has occurred, or at least a worn belt that is slipping. I highly recommend to not use the unit and to contact a professional to accurately diagnosis the washer and to assist with the repairs.

Washer will not spin

Not spinning but can you hear the motor running? The drive belt probably came off or snapped.

Very loud noise during spin cycle - drum still spinning at normal speed. sounds almost like a broken belt - are there more than one belt?

only one belt on machines, ur looking at one of the following

  • loose counter weight
  • something stuck in drum, eg bra wire, sock
  • bearings failing
  • broken shaft
  • machine not level maybe?

The spin cycles are getting louder and louder, and now I am getting dark, streaky stains on the clothing. Is this some sort of bearing problem that would cause this?

Yes its a bad rear bearing. You need to replace the whole back half of the tub. Very expensive and labor intensive repair. Your better off just replacing the unit. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. _MJ_

part 916708 is the belt I think you should be using, If you still have the belt look at the side for any numbers and compare to your purchase. I know there is a couple of belts and one is bigger.

Washer does not spin out water

I am assuming this is a front loader. If so, watch it go thru the cycles. Does it do a fast spin at any time? If yes, it's likely the belt is slipping. If it only goes back and forth slowly, you have another problem with the electrical control... the same as mine and I'm still trying to get to the bottom of it.
