Make sure they are turned on in the BIOS. HIT F1, F2, F3, F4, OR DEL , OR (CTRL ALT DELETE) When your computer boots up to find the settings in the BIOS. Bios commands are different for different systems. Hit the tab button at start up if you can't figure out what to hit and it might show the screen. I have seen cases where the computer had to be reloaded, because so many files are corrupted. You can try the repair install if you have your windows disk. I will be the second repair option in setup.

I had the same problem with my T41. I even tried setting up the ports in the setup configuration with no luck.

When I plugged a USB device into the port it also appeared in Device Manager with the yellow question mark. I right-clicked on the device to install a driver. This brought up the Wizard which prompted me for whether I was connected to the internet. You have to be online for this to work. Unless you have the drivers already it needs to search the net for the correct drivers.

I had to do this with separately for each USB device to work.

Coincidentally I solved a MARSCAM/Vivitar toy digital camera problem while troubleshooting this. Apparently some of these USB device drivers drivers are installed in the Windows system folder when you load the CD that comes with it. You have to go into Explorer and maually click on each folder until you find the correct one - you know when the OK button lights up and allows you to click on it.

I'm now being prompted in XP for something that will make the USB port run faster. I haven't figured out how to address this yet, but basically I'm now able to run my USB toys on my Thinkpad :-)

Good luck,
