Grinding noise, ps2 scratching disks and freezing.
My PS2 makes a grinding/clicking noise just before it freezes, and i only get about 6 to 7 minutes of gameplay before it freezes, and also it scratches disks somehow. Whats wrong and how can i fix it??
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

A couple things come to mind. If the lens is dirty, then there will certainly be issues with load times, or load failure. Check your game discs for scratches and scuffs. If a disc has a scratch or too many scuffs on it, it will make it difficult for the laser to read. Clean your discs, and clean your ps2 lens with a basic ps2 laser cleaning kit. You should be able to find them anywhere. I don't recommend cleaning the lens without a kit if you are not familiar with the internals of a PS2 or cleaning electronic components. If after cleaning your disc and lens it still gives you issues, there is an angle adjustment gear in the ps2, but we'll cross that bridge only if the cleaning doesn't work.
the disk may be damaged , If it has the smallest scratch or smudge on the disk the ps2 will not play it. is it the slim or older ps2 ? if it continues to freeze I would return it as damaged. There should really no reason for it freezing unless it has a damaged disk or your PS2 needs cleaned or repaired. Hope this helps and I hope you get it up and going.
Sounds like you need to get your money back ..the resurfaceing can also do more bad than good But a little trick lightly rub a crayon over the disk ,,old pantyhose works great rub it off from center out then try your disk ,,have saved many good games that way
This is usually the cause of a dirty disk and/or reading lens. If you bought different consoles and disks, this may be a result of unforunate coincedences.
Another thing that people dont know about however, is that video game creators will make the game faulty on purpose, to make it freeze, JUST before you get to the end of the game, this is so you will stay interested and buy more of their games.
Also, you may have a fan problem, after the game freezes, check and see if the ps2 is hot, it may be over heated.
Try unplugging it for 24 hours, then retry.
Have a good night
the reason it makes the "grinding" noise is because the motor that moves the lens to read the disk is dieing, this generally happens when you have played your ps2 for a long time, this only happens to older consoles.
