Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have a GE Monogram fridge with the freezeron the bottom. We came home to see that all items were frosted over the door would not completely close and perhaps a drip that had accumulated a sheet of ice on the bottom of the freezer that is 1/2 inch thick. We have now removed all items and turned the freezer temp way up, but can not seem to turn off as if we turn it off it also turns off the refridge. We are attempting to melt the accumulated ice and hope we are doing it correctly, also how can we tell what the problem even is?

My GE Monogram Frig door will not stay shut, it's lost its vacuum seal!

Check the fridge for out of level. Magnets on the weather-stripping hold the door closed. If there is something stuck on the seal, or too much weight in the door in an un-level fridge it will not make good contact. Try cleaning the rubber, and removing everything from the door after leveling. A good seal will stay closed even if the fridge is off.

42'' monogram getting very hot between doors and in unit above

This is typical for frost-free refridgerators/freezers. In order to keep ice from buiding up on the interior walls of the freezer section, the manufacturer installs electric defrosting elements and extra "warming" elements in the outer edges of the cabinet, normally around the door openings to help mitigate any frost/ice build up and surface condensation that typically occurs on the exterior surfaces as the doors are opened and closed frequently.

These edge warmers stay very warm to keep ice and condensation from accumulating and will become VERY very warm (hot) when the fridge/freezer is in the once a day defrost cycle.

Unless you have an energy saver switch (GE trademark) inside the fridge section, which you can turn off, there is no way to disable these added elements. If you find that you're getting ice building up in the freezer, you'll need to turn off the energy saver switch to resolve that issue.

Energy Saver switch "ON" means these elements are off, while having the ES switch "OFF" means those heaters are running all the time and costing you more in energy consumption

We accidently left the freezer door open during the entire night and now icemaker doesn't dispense on monogram refrigerator, even though ice maker makes ice.

you might want to turn the whole fridge off (remove the food to a safe place) and let the fridge defrost, wipe any water up and retry. If it is under warranty, call GE

Door on Monogram ZIR36N won't pull closed and stay shut

The spring is actually a door closure , are the wheels that the bar closure mechanism goes through and attaches to the spring moving freely? It is entirely possible that a bin in the fridge is keeping the door open.

Freezer door is canted forward. This separates the gasket from the frame and allows air in. Large amount of frost build up.

HI thanks for the question. the fridge door should close by itself if opened and then just let go of door. if not that way. raise the front of the fridge to make it work that way. thanks the appliance doc. please rate my answer. thanks.

Refrigerator warm, freezer too cold

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

GE monorgram frost in the ice shute

Sounds like the ice door in the dispenser isn't closing properly or all the way which lets warm air in condensates then freezes.
