Depending on how they shipped the unit you may have a restore dvd, a restore parition or were supposed to make the restore disks.

If this is Vista then prepare to swear at it and toshiba (a lot). If you have the restore dvd then you just boot from it and follwo instructions. If you have the parition you hold down a key such as F11 when booting to bring up the restore. If you created the restore dvd's you just boot from those. Here is where you may have problems. The vista partition may have been installed in a corrupt format and when you made the back dvd's they would have the same corrupt information. The end result is that niether one will work.I've run into this a few times and not just with Toshiba. If this is the case you can either order a restore dvd from Toshiba or find the correct version install dvd. You do have a legitimate serial number so you just need the proper dvd.
I did enough of these to get a OEM corporate install dvd but for some people it was easier and cheaper to install XP.

If you can you should back up your documents, email adress's, pictures and anything else you want to save. When you restore it usually wipes off the hard drive so you loose anything you have created or saved.

I have a toshiba satellite L645D how can I format it to the factory settings like it just came out of the box.

When your Toshiba Satellite laptop goes on the fritz, there are several instances where the best solution is to delete everything and start over. If your system frequently crashes or you can't remove a specific virus, you may want to restore the laptop back to original factory settings. While the easiest way to restore the system is to use the operating system restore disc, it is possible to restore the system without it. Each Satellite laptop also includes a hard drive recovery utility that lets you restore the operating system without the restore disc.

1.Take account of any files or programs you still want to use after the Toshiba laptop is restored back to its factory settings. Transfer the files to a backup location, such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive.

2.Restart the Toshiba Satellite laptop's operating system. Wait for the Toshiba logo to appear on the screen.

3.Press the key that brings up the hard drive disk utility menu. Depending on the specific model of your Toshiba Satellite laptop, the key will either be "0," "F1," or "F8."

4.Press "1" or click "Restore Original Factory Image." Click "Yes." Select "Next" to begin the restoration process.

5.Restart the Toshiba laptop computer when the restoration process finishes running. Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to set up the laptop's date, time and language settings.

6.Transfer the backup copies of the data you saved earlier back to the Toshiba's hard drive. Re-install any programs you need, such as your software firewall or anti-virus tool.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thanks.

How to restore toshiba labtop with no disc

Hello

Well, if you have no Installation disc, or no cd/dvd rom in this specific model, you should have a recovery partition.

To access the Toshiba recovery partition, power off the laptop. Hold down the 0 (zero) key and turn the laptop on. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo appears, where you should start tapping the zero key repeatedly. Stop if the unit beeps or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should flash ** HDD RECOVERY MODE ** for a split second, then load the Toshiba recovery program right from the hard drive.

Note that this erases all data, and reloads all factory default software. Be sure to back up all your important personal data beforehand!

If this procedure doesn't work, you don't have a recovery partition set up, hence, you will need the installation disc.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea
