Question about Maytag 24 in. MDB6601AWS Stainless Steel Dishwasher

1 Answer

I have a mdb6601aws dishwasher. The upper spray arm assembly is held on by two cheesy clips which are attatched to a plastic cross molded to the dishwasher itself. The molds are stripped so the clips do not stay attatched to the top and back side so the spray assembly dangles down on the dishes below. It seems this was a bad design but how can it be reattatched?

I think you must have misunderstood the problem. The clips are not broken, it's the plastic molded part of the dishwasher drum itself (what the clips attach to) that is stripped and broke. An appliance store said the drum can not even be bought separately and offered no solution. If there is a fix I"d sure like an idea how. I find it hard to believe that I would have to buy a new dishwasher which is only 2 years old because a little piece of plastic broke off. Help me please!

    Hi,

So what your saying is that parts # 2 and # 5 broke....and the arm is hanging down...

What I would do is order the new pieces and then dry everything really well...

Then place clear silocone caulk behind the clips and make sure they are held in tight. till the silocone drys...porp them with wood or something if neccesary...

The silicone both glue the part fasy and give a water proof seal....

Sorry for reading the problem too fast the first time... I should never assume a problem...

Top water outlet doesn't spin

Not sure of the vintage of your Maytag dishwasher, but this may work for yours.
1. Remove the upper rack by releasing the stop clips on the ends of the rack rail; push the ends of the clips towards center of machine - this may require the help of a small screwdriver.
2. The upper spray arm assembly is mounted to the ceiling of the wash chamber by large (2" diameter) fluted nut that butts right against the ceiling sheet metal. Simply remove that nut by hand, and the whole assembly will come out.
3. Looking into the top of center feed hole, you'll see 4 plastic clip ends holding the 3 pieces together. Use a 1/4# socket or nutdriver to press all 4 clips inward until they come free.
4. The spray arm halves are welded together, so you'll have to clean out any clogs using a pointy tool and some water flushing.
5. Reassembly is the reverse order.
Good luck!

Hi there, My Bosch exxcel is playing up. the top arms are not spinning. So far i have purchaed new arms used several cleaners, taken the side of and checked the float and cleaned generally. The bottom...

Hi Mark,

Have you checked the seal/gasket on back of the upper spray arm assembly?

If you pull the upper basket forward the entire spray arm assemble will come with it. You can remove the spray arm assembly by releasing the single clip at the top at the rear of the basket. The spray arm assembly with then slide out backwards.

Once you've removed it, have a look at the back of it. There is a plastic gasket inside with 2 holes which fit over the studs at the top of the delivery tube still attached to the back of the dishwasher.
You can remove the back cover of the spray arm assembly by releasing the 2 clips at the top and bottom. Be careful here as they may be brittle after prolonged use of the washer.

Remove the back cover and take the plastic gasket out. Place the holes of the plastic gasket over the studs on the delivery arm in the back of the washer and check the gap between the gasket holes and the studs and check for excess movement.

If there is a significant gap or movement here, then it needs to be replaced. If there isn't a reasonable seal at this location, water will leak from there and there may not be enough pressure to rotate the spray arm

If you've already done this or there seems to be no problem with the gasket, please let me know and I will try to assist you further. Similarly, if this proves to be the problem and you need assistance obtaining replacement part/s, just let me know.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
BElectric

About the only things that move in the cabinet other than the water pump is the spray arms. The lower arm should be screwed down fairly tightly (plastic screw), but the upper arm is held in place with a plastic friction plug--it tends to wobble more. Spin both arms by hand to see if either hits something (have the drawers in). The lower arm has metal clips on the ends which may be coming loose. They are just clipped onto the arm edges. Hope this helps!

Dishwasher top arm replacement.

This task is a cake walk and very easy. The upper spray arm is held on with a plastic nut that just has to be unscrewed by hand. The new one should come with a full replacement nut and spray arm.Part #154607802 which retails around $8.95 and can be purchased from most major part houses like www.marcone.com or www.searspartselect.com

Upper rinse arm fell off. How does it reattach?

usually it will clip to the basket that holds cups and the like, and engages with the water outlet when the basket is slid into position. Some spray arms have a locking ring that, when the spray bar is held in place, rotates clockwise (if viewed from underneath) and locks the spraybar in place.

Frigidaire dishwasher - upper spray arm trouble?

I do not have a problem w/the upper arm not spinning. Rather, the upper arm keeps falling off of my frigidair dishwasher. The owner's manual suggests the upper arm is a single unit. However, the upper arm component is comprised of 3 parts. The parts are an arm that distributes the water, the base that screws to the top of the dishwasher, and a small plastic type washer that rides in the base and literally holds the arm to the base. The plastic washer has two small clips that tend to wear or contrast with age; thus letting the arm fall off on a very frequent basis.

Potentially, the small plastic washer piece may have broken in the base assembly and is not allowing the arm to turn. As water flows into the arm from a hole in the base; suggesting the plastic washer may be jammed with a foreign item seems less likely. The base unit screws to the top of the dishwasher and can be removed by hand (the base is a little tight). There are no mechanical pieces to my third (upper) arm; movement of the arm is accomplished with water flow.

You may wish to remove the arm assembly and check for a broken washer or a foreign item in the assembly. As a side note, I found that I can unscrew the base and remove the assembly without removing the top dish tray. The fit is a little tight but the tedium of pulling and reinstalling the top tray can be eliminated by unscrewing the assembly w/the tray slid forward for assembly access.

Hope all you have is a foreign item that is locking the washer.

Spray arms clogged

Top: Remove the upper tray by releasing the clips on the ends of the runners. (Squeeze the top of the clip and pull upwards). Remove the spray arm by holding the round plastic clip that holds the arm and turning the arm. It will unscrew.

Bottom: Grab spray arm in centre and pull sharply upwards to unclip.

Wash in warm water and solvent-free detergent.

Upper Spray Arm Fell Off

If you are referring to the arm on the top of the dishwaser (not the one under the top basked) it snaps in. What probably happened is that it fell off and the plastic nut flipped around. The gray plasting thing on the top (that looks like a flower) will unscrew and you can turn the nut around and snap it back on and then re-attach the entire piece.

How to remove upper spray arm of Maytag DWU 9200 BBE dishwasher

There is a plastic clip that holds the spray arm to the inlet line. This clip is in the center and has to be sqeazed together to release the arm.

Both upper and lower spray arms become clogged by different objects like paper, plastic, stems from fruits, etc... These are particles that cannot br dissolved be the detergents.
