Question about Whirlpool Dryers

No heat. When the dryer is cold, If I tap on the gas valve, it will fire once and stay on for a few minutes, then shut off. It makes a noise when it's trying to fire, but just won't.

The problem is the gas valve solenoid coils sitting on top of the gas valve assembly, one with three prongs and the other has two. They work when cool but eventually fail when they get hot. Replace the coils to address the problem. Simply disconnect the wires and remove the coils holding bracket then pull the coils out. Slide the new coils in and secure them with the bracket. Reconnect the wires and it's done.

Indicate the exact model number of the dryer should you need further assistance. You don't have to accept or reject and rate this post to add information or post comments and follow-up questions. Gas Dryer Heat wont stay on.

Must be something in the blower section. You need to get into the dryer and clean it up. Air restrictions cause overheat condition. When the temp gets so high the limits shut it down. Lots of videos on you tube that show how to get into. You can google gas dryer dan webster or roper dryer no heat dan webster and I have some videos posted how to get into these.

Stops and all the lights come on

Instructions
    • 1 Make sure the home's gas supply valve is turned on. Check your Maytag owner's manual to find the location of the dryer's gas shut-off valve. This is usually behind the dryer's front panel or in the back of the unit. Open the valve to allow gas to flow into the dryer.
    • 2 Open the lower front panel of the dryer to access the pilot light assembly. Press and hold the starter button as you light the pilot with a handheld lighter. If you have trouble getting it to light, release the starter button and wait a few minutes before trying it again. Once the pilot is lit, hold the starter button down for another minute to make sure it will stay burning.

    • 3 Close the dryer's front panel and run a test cycle to see if it is producing heat. Call a repairman to evaluate the problem if lighting the pilot did not restore the heat.

I have a gas Kenmore Dryer 74202200 and it heats sometimes, moreso when it first comes on. The glow plug works and it clicks and it fires up, but then the fire shuts off and the glow plug comes back on a...

if it runs for the first 15 to 30 minutes and then no heat you have bad gas coils, located on top of the gas valve, when the coils heat up they fail,if you try to start it again after it sits for a long time it will lite again, also you could have a bad gas valve, try tapping the valve to see if it lites,if it does lite while you're tapping on it most likely it will be the valve, let me know what you find and send the model number.good luck

Dryer heat stays on for a few seconds and then

the clicking noise is the gas valve opening, but it isn't firing due to either a bad gas valve boost and secondary coil,a bad thermal fuse,or a bad ignitor bar that glows white hot to ignite the gas,or the radiant senser is weak or bad on the burner tube body

After starting my GE gas dryer , the burner fires and everything seems fine . The burner stays on for a few minutes and shuts off like it's supposed to . After a few minutes , the glow element turns on to...

Watch the igniter. Does it glow bright orange, then shut off without igniting the gas? (When the gas ignites there's a large blue flame.) If so, there may be defective coils on the gas valve. Mounted on the top of modern gas valves, there are black electrical coils. The coils, when energized, open the gas valve. If one or more of the coils are defective, the valve doesn't open and the gas cannot ignite. Because it's often difficult to properly test the coils, it's usually best to replace both (all) of them at the same time.

Gas dryer gets hot for a few minutes then goes cold.

Sounds like you need to replace the coils on the gas valve. Just make sure your venting is clear 1st. If it is, the coils are easy to replace. Remove the front panel and the coils are on the bottom right hand side. Two screws and the bracket for both comes off. One has two terminals and the other has three. Real easy once you get into the dryer.

Gas dryer not heating properly

This sounds like the flame sensor is bad to me.

If it does not work properly, the unit will shut off for safety. The machine assumes that the burner did not light and rather than run gas into your house, it shuts off. It may try to start a certain number of times and then shut off.

You may be able to remove and clean it (flame sensor) lightly with a scotch brite pad and it may work properly again.

Otherwise it will need replacement.

This is a very common problem and the part is probably in stock.

Post a comment on your progress as this solution is likely to be useful to many people.

Thanks,

Tim

The problem is not the gas valve.

Heating Problem

If this is a gas dryer, you probably have bad valve coils, they can work intermittently, usually for the first part of a cycle, but when they heat up the internal resistance gets too high and they fail to open the gas valve. Once they cool off, (by continuing to air dry) they will work again for a few minutes. They will also make a buzzing/rattling (maybe "metal" ) noise as voltage is applied. For any Kenmore gas dryer, get part #279834 it contains both valve coils. Very easy to replace. Another possibility is that your duct work is plugged, check airflow. Hope this helps.
