Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I am trying to replace my HD in my Acer aspire 5520 from 160GB (Hitachi of 5400 rpm and 8 MB) to 500GB (Hitachi of 7200 rpm and 16 MB). Acer sent the recovery cd. I used an enclosure hard drive to format the hard drive and I installed the windows vista in the new hard drive (Acer recognizes this HD) but when I boot my laptop show me "PXE-E61 Media test failure, check cable". When I put back my old hard drive everything is ok. Some idea what is the problem?

I Installed windows on the new HDD in the laptop with the recovery cd. Before I change the HDD, I formatted it using an enclosure hard drive kit, as a external HDD.
About settings to disable the AHCI function I don't know how to do it, because when I press F2 show me PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility and the only thing I can change is the order in BOOT options, the first option is IDE0 : Hitachi HTS725050A9A364...

First ..Im not sure I understood how you installed windows on the new Hdd..but I sow that you didn't do it in the laptop ..
the correct way is to see if the laptop is seeing the Hdd..and to install the windows directly on the hard disk installed into the laptop ...by using boot-able installation disk with the operation system ..Cause if you install it on another device ..or other way ..it will not recognize the devices present on the laptop ..and most likely to give you a blue screen ..and errors like the one you just got ..
Another thing ..you have to go to bios settings ..advanced st-up ..most likely ..and see the Hdd in there ..and on its settings to disable the AHCI function ..cause if you do not have a disk with sata drivers ..the laptop with the AHci function enabled will not see the hard disk ..and this is the error and what it means ...basically it didnt found the boot device ..cause of this function probably enabled in bios..It is not hard to disable ..just press F2 on start up ..and go to BIOS settings ..and look for the feature that allow you to see the Hdd and disk drive ..and set them u ..it is either the device .or the advanced settings..Im not remembering exactly ..its the second or the 3rd feature..and in there you will find a function named...AHCI...this have to be disabled in order that the laptop to see and function with the HDD ..otherwise it will say that the HDD is missing or the boot device is not present ..

Try format the drive. If this doesn't work there is a fault with the drive and it will need to be taken back to the place of purchase or sent to Toshiba directly.

I have a 4 channel Sunluxy H.264 Network DVR, I have fitted a 300gb HDD but although the system is working and I get the 4 cameras on screen the message I keep getting on boot up is HDD not found

Guys this one stumped me for some time, here is my solution that worked like a dream

1. plug the hard drive you are using into a pc and check the hard drive is recognise and works.
2. Delete all partitions
3. ensure it has a 8 bit cache buffer!! This is the most important one. That means the system only supports older hard drives. I got 2 second hand ones from the local pc store for $50. See the list of hard drives that are know to work below.

MANUFACTURER MODEL CAPACITY ROTATION
ST3320613AS 320GB 7200 rpm

FYI for some reason the person I bought this off online "Ebay" had no idea how to support and I could not get support from their web site as they email they give just bounces back.

Cheers.

Hitachi 750 GB HT0LMNA7501BBB Shows up on my mac, but will not open. Whenever I click on it all I get is the "spinning wheel of death". I really need to access the files on the HD. What should I do?

It's likely you will need data recovery help. And you may need to send it to a data recovery lab but as a first step I would suggest an online data recovery service like http://FreeDataRecovery.us

I have the same system too. None of the tuners such as RIVA work well w/ integrated notebook card, and u r graphics card is pretty ghetto. I could however, download POWERSTRIP and tune up a minescule 300-400 MHz but it won't let me access memory clock. More than this I could do no further overclocking.

HDD failure on an ACER laptop

With the exception of interface, laptop hard drives (2.5" drives) are easily interchangeable. You can look up the specs of the drive you pull by googling the manufacturer and model number, but the main specs are interface (sata or ide, yours is ide according to the info I found about this laptop- not interchangeable with sata), drive speed (yours probably 5400 rpm, faster ones are 7200), buffer size (usually 8 MB).
So, if you think the issue is your drive, check out something like:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1277&name=2.5-Hard-Drive
although Iwould probably go to a store personally instead of any kind of mail order. Take your old drive with you if you are not sure. You could even put in a bigger capacity drive; I believe your laptop came with only 80GB??.
