Question about Craftsman Garden

1 Answer

I have a Craftsman 917.271131 Riding Mower. I was mowing today and it shut off when I was in higher grass. I got it restarted after a couple attempts. I shut it off once I was back to the garage and cannot get it restarted now. I have lights, but cannot get it to crank. Does anyone have any suggestion on what to check 1st.

IF THE LIGHTS GO OUT WHEN YOU ENGAGE THE IGNITION IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A BAD OR LOOSE GROUND CONNNECTION AT THE BATTERY. I'D START THERE.

While cutting grass with sears craftsman LT1500 17.5hp 42"deck why is mower losing power within 2 min after I put in gear and begin to now. I have to keep shifting up to a higher gear in order to mow

First check your air cleaner for clean filter. If that's clean then ajust your valves. Start with intake and exhaust set at .004 each. I think this will fix your problem. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Wierd grass catcher problem

There are a couple of causes for this. Is the blade height the same on the new mower? Higher blade height could cause a lot of the grass to be blown out from under the deck, and not into the catcher chute.

On the trailing edge of the mower blades is a small 'wing' for lack of a better term. There are two types of blades, mulching blades that have a lower 'wing', while catcher blades that have a slightly higher 'wing' but it makes a difference.

If the season has been hot lately, the grass may not be growing as fast, hence less clippings, and less dense grass could also cause this.

Left blade is on backwards (liftng edge is contacting grass). Try reversing the blade on the left side.

During mowing grass will gather underside of deck leaving 2 streaks on r and l if you turn deck off grass will fall out of deck before restarting u need tgo move or mower will stall from grass build up...

There are a couple of things going on here. First, the blades are likely worn out and need replaced. As they wear and loose some length they can leave a trail. Second, if you have regular blades on a deck configured (by having discharge plugged) for mulching and you are using regular blades, then you can have a problem with build up. Third, you can have clumping problems if the grass is not dry when you are mowing.

I hope this is helpful for you.

The blades stop turning under a heavy load on my Craftsman 42" mower deck. Is there an adjustment that can be made?

"the adjustment" is to slow down in high grass areas. alternatively mow more often so the grass does not get so high between mowings

The riding mower doesn't cut evenly...one side cuts higher than the other...

The following steps will make any riding mower cut evenly.
1. The rear tires must be the same diameter i.e. same tread type and the same tire pressure (check it before each mowing).
2. Level the deck following the instructions in the manual and recheck it occasionally
3. Make sure the blade(s) are not damaged and kept sharp, rounded blades tear instead of cut.
4. Make sure the deck and its attachment points are not bent or damaged.
5. Drive at a slow walking speed with the engine at cutting speed.
6. Over lap rows in amounts sufficient to lift and cut the tire tracks from the previous pass.
7. Cut the grass at intervals that ensures you never have cut more than 1/3rd the total length of the grass.
8. Make sure the underside of the deck is clean.
9. Use a blade style that matches the type of grass you most often mow.
