Question about Philips 37PF9631D 37 in. LCD HDTV
Hello Paul, hi, your TV's LCD screen is powered by a back light that slowly slowly getting old/dim, until this lamp goes to off permanently, this need a replacement lamp, need also to check the inverter circuit that powers this lamp. Once replaced, the TV will go back to normal operation.

Sounds like a backlight failure. http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=37PF9631D%2F37 has the Ambilights from TVs of this model that were damaged in shipping (so they were only used in the factory quality control testing). The backlight usually fails slowly (while the inverter that powers them fails quickly).
These fit on the edge of the LCD panel.
(on some units the backlights are under tape sandwiched into the frame of the LCD Panel. I haven't dealt with swapping the Ambilight on this model though.)
