Question about Gateway M-7301u Notebook

1 Answer

I have a M 7301 u that will not power on.The issue started with the power supply going out and the computer shutting down, thought it was bad power supply so I replaced it. It ran fine on just battery but would have to be powered down to charge the battery. Now the laptop will not boot. I hit the on button, I get the fan, hear the cd drive, nothing on screen, the wireless light, caps lock, num lock and HDD light come on and after a few seconds the HDD light goes out.The other status lights stay lit but it doesnt seem to even POST. While powered on I plug a usb mouse into the computer, it lights for a second then nothing. I am suspecting it is a power regulating issue on the system board and would like a second opinion and also where the heck is the best place to get a replacement motherboard should that be the problem. Thanks, Larry C.

I believe that your problem is not the motherboard but the DC Power Jack that you plug the power source into. This is a regular problem I've faced with Gateways often. I now send them in on a regular basis to any one of several DC Powerjack Replacement vendors on eBay, who will offer a flat rate of around $80 dollars with return shipping. You will be responsible to pay the inbound shipping and I use parcel post as it's least expensive.

Go to ebay and in the search box type in DC Power Jack Repair and you'll get a big list. I cannot recommend a specific vendor here due to policy but I have never had a problem with any vendor for this problem yet.

Thus far you did well however I believe since I had experienced the same issue with my computer shutting on and off as well. I went and bought some Heat Sink Paste and redid the CPU top and walla no more issue with computer shutting down. You may wish to give this a go. It worked for me. $4.00 fix. Thought I would suggest it. .John

Computer shuts down on it's own. It will try to re-start but immediately shuts down again

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((motherboard to your hard drive))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps

My hp compaq 615 always restart after an hour and some minutes

Posible over heating issue, (issue with the fan, processor or heatsink)
>Overheating triggers auto-shutdown to protect the CPU
>Memory module going bad;
>Power supply going bad.

Computer usually shuts down if it is over heating so it won't melt down. There is a command on how to disable the auto shut down but it may affect your computer badly.

I would suggest to reformat your computer first before dealing with the hardware issue to avoid part replacement.

Input power has been confirmed? From your home outlet? Or from your computer power supply? I think your computer power supply is bad.

Dell laptop mo.1000 inspriron

There could be several things that could cause this actually.
1. the power supply could be bad and is not giving the correct voltage to the system board and thus it shuts off.
2. The voltage on the system board is overloading the Computers Processor so it shuts down
3. The Processor has or is going bad.

If you have another power supply or can borrow one, that would be the first thing I would try. If that doesn't fix the issue, you will need to have it serviced by a professional who can trouble shoot the problem with the proper equipment.

Thats a good thought. Replace them now before they decide to self-destruct.

Like I said, they aren't "bad" computers. They generally use Intel mainboards, although I've stumbled across some "odd" ones before.

One thing you will notice is the original power supplies don't have cooling fans (some do, and some don't). I think that is what the main problem is with them - heat.

Get yourself basic Antec power supplies (they can range from $30 and up) and you shouldn't have anymore issues.
