2003 mitsubishi medallion HDTV 1080 series intergrated 55" wide screen tv. Picked it up from a friend. Started having horizontal rolling lines across the screen. Been watching a dvd movie for about an hour and haven't seen them come back. Its in great condition, and would like the fix the issue. Its Model # is WS-55613, and the s/n is 109622. Any sound advice and help would be super appreciated.

sorry, wrong category. This is a rear projection TV

  • nitrotmann Sep 01, 2010

It doesn't seem to make a difference witch inputs are used. it'll do it with a magnavox dvd player, motorola dvr cable cable box from cable one. Have used componet, s video, and rca cords. Odd thing with the dvr is when i first hooked it up i was using the dtv input with componet cables, however, I wasn't able to access my hd channels witch are in the 400's. It would give and error and say to check the connections. I then changed the dvr over to rca cables and into input two, and the hd channels are working again. The tv was turned on from about 5:30 am to 10 pm yesterday, with no issues. Today however, it started like normal, with first startup, and then stopped about 10 minutes in. However, its now been on for about 3 hours and it will occasionall still start rolling.

So going through the manual you sent me, I was trying to locate the electrolytic caps in the deflection circuit. I found the deflection circuit on page 63. I think the caps you want me to replace are #'s c5a34, c5a35. Do those look correct, or are there any others i need to get to in the manual. Oh and I should be able to get the parts from a radio shack right?

    Thanks,

    Jade

I just took a look at the board again. focused around the h and v out transistors. some of the caps had X on the top, and some had K stamped. both large and small, but nothing seemed to have any swelling to them. My multimeter has the ability to check caps, but only if i can discharge it first, if i read meter's manual correctly. To do this i would need to unplug all wires connected to the board and get the whole tray out of the unit, correct? Or is the board i need to work on, able to be removed by itself?

Does it roll on all inputs? Did you try another input source such as cable box? I am asking coz I have seen some these roll the picture when connected to a DVD.

Ok. It confirms my suspicion that its a deflection circuit fault. You have faulty electrolytic caps in the deflection circuit. They are probably not able to hold the charge for sustained periods. How good are your electronics soldering skills?

  • nitrotmann Sep 01, 2010

i could probably get it done, or have a friend do it. This is the service manual that i have for it. Would you mind taking a look at it and maybe pointing me to where the cuplrit is? http://www.service-manual.eu/model.php?i...

    Thanks,

Downloaded it and checked it out. Its a 14 page manual without much detail. So I just thought I will give you the more comprehensive one that I have. Its a 65-page detailed service manual.

Q5A31(Horizontal Output Transistor) page 16. Next to that is the V-out. Ask him to test both of them. Also ask him to test nearby resistors.

    Note the V-out is Q5A01

Its ok.. I forgot to add that like I said in my first post, electrolytic caps in the deflection circuit are the top priority. You can identify them visually by means of swollen tops, cracks/holes at the X. Just in case you can't set the multimeter to capacitance and test them.

Us those are elctrolytic caps. And yes you should be able to get them at radioshack. Make sure you note down the specs properly. Ex: 120V 100uF (uF means micro-farad). Hope you are good at soldering. LEave me a message when you are about to begin. I will give you some safety instructions.

Yes you have to remove the board from the chassis first. Only then you can discharge it. You can just touch the leads of a bulb on the pair of solder joints of each capacitor. The bulb will glow momentarily and turn off indicating that the charge in that capacitor has been drained. Also set your meter to 1000uF(or 1mF) while testing as some of the caps may be connected via series.

Above is your user manual, and below is your Service and Repair Manual.
http://www.service-manual.eu/model.php?id=2782

As this fault is at best intermittent, it may just have been a Glitch? you simply will have to keep an eye on it
You can use the service manual, to isolate and troubleshoot any issues that arise, when they do.
If you do have a problem, the First place to start troubleshooting is In the Power Supply Unit. This must be 100% A OK, as, if it isn't nothing else in the set can be.

It needs to be input if you want to display some on the TV from the DVD player. HDMI is the easiest as it's both audio and video.

Mitsubishi Medallion 1080 WS-55413 - colors not aligned

There is no "reset" as the set has in the customer and tech menus ways to attempt to manually adjust this.

under convergence in the customer menu select advanced and follow the instructions on the screen.

If Red or Blue or Green are skewed and will not adjust it means one of the two STK-394-250 CONVERGENCE chips this set uses is bad.

Depending on where you buy them they will range in price from about 12 dollars each to nearly 35 dollars each.

Let me know what you find; this may or may not be a do it yourself repair as some real expertise is required to correctly get at and replace the chips.

Can't loate bool;et for Mitsubishi HD 1080 Series Medallion

it is usually in the Audio settings, sometimes by the CC settings, if you go to the TV and enter th menu from the set, go thru one at a time until you find the spot to turn it off, it is under options or Menu on the remote also, there maybe an SAP Option on the remote itself, but you may have to press another key first like a "Function: Key.
I hope this helps some, if so please give me a good (fixya) rating. Thanks and have a Blessed Day
