Question about Cameras

1 Answer

My Sony camera takes a K battery. One battery works but when I put another in that is also a K, it tells me to use a compatible battery. Is there something wrong with the battery. They are both Sony K batteries.

The battery or the little controller in the battery may be faulty. It may also be a fake sony battery. There have been a few of those around.

If it isn't being recognized properly and it is fully charged there is nothing you can do to fix the battery. You can just get a good replacement.

Testimonial: "Thanks, I checked with Sony and they said the same thing. I know the battery I ordered was from China. Maybe it is a fake. I better be more careful"

If it was a off brand not marked as a sony battery then it's just a low quality battery. I grabbed a cheap chinese replacment for my laptop $39 verses $202 from toshiba and it works but it only has about 70% capacity of what it should. The fake ones can either be very easy to spot especially if you have an original to compare it to or can be identical. Usually there is something just not quite right with the label. Or the plastic feels funny sort of greasy. On the better fake ones the only way to tell is by taking them apart. With so much stuff being made in china these days it is hard to know if it is good or junk. Generally if you can buy it here with a warrenty if nothing else you can take it back and complain ;-]

I hadn't charged my w330 Sony camera for a while ....I've only had my camera for 6 months...and it's warranty is 2 yrs. The camera is in good condition, yet when I charged my battery, and later put it in...

In order to avoid people using 3rd party batteries, electronics manufacturers have started putting smart chips in the battery packs. The camera interrogates the smart chip and if it isn't the Sony chip, the camera tells you "too bad."

In your case, since you have a genuine Sony battery (it came with the camera, right?), return to the dealer and have them exchange the battery.

''for use with compatible battery only''

This appears to be a common fault. You can look up similar problems in fixya with the words "Sony" and "for use with compatible battery only". It would appear to be a logic fault in the battery system somewhere. Here's a couple of solutions with merit that appear elsewhere......

Solution 1)
I took out the battery from the camera; then I made a short-circuit with a small cable between all the three electrical contacts in the bottom of the battery. Then I put the battery into the camera; the camera didn´t turn on. I took the battery out again from the camera and placed it in the charger supplied, in a few minutes the light was off. I placed the battery in the camera, and ... I´m working well with it! (5 people thought this was helpful)
Solution 2) please remove the battery while pressing and holding the power button for 1 min. plase make sure that the battery supplied for yer camera is an NPBG1 original sony battery.

A final health and safety word - take care when shorting out batteries - they can still give a shock. If you work from the assumption that your battery is currently unusable, then these solutions might work...... or you'll end up with a shorted useless battery (i.e. not really any worse off than now). If you find a better workaround - please post it.

My sony cyber shot turns off after it says for use for compatible

Seems battery got bad and camera does not recognize it.
Take out battery, put it on charger and charge it, put back battery in camera and check.
If problem still exist, use new battery.
Thanks.

Error message "use compatible battery only"

I had this same problem and also have a post on fixya on how to fix it and many ppl have emailed me saying thanks. it worked for me and many others. i'll sum it up
on the battery is 3 gold or silver contacts they are small squares u need to take a fork or bend a paper clip and jump all 3 together for 3 seconds. after doing this put the battery in the charger for 1 hour and thats it. you can now use it again.
I'll explain. the cause is putting the battery in the charger backwords. this messes up the data in the battery and makes it not work in your camera. The battery has data stored in it so it will only work with your model camera. it gets this data from the charger. Shorting out all 3 contacts on the battery for 3 seconds deletes the data stored in the battery and putting it back in the charger re-writes the correct data. If this worked for you send me a thanks! :-) wiidoctor@gmail.com

First are you using a genuine Sony battery if not then get one. if you are it is a faulty battery pack and requires replacement, if under warranty take it back to the place of purchase

Battery compatibility

There's not much you can do about the problem because the problem is inside the camera. A faulty component is probably the cause. (I think its receiving more or less that the needed amount of power so that's the error with compatibility)
If still within warranty, take it back to the reseller and ask them for a replacement or get it fixed. If they refuse, ring up SONY.

I bought a SONY DSC-S750 3 months ago. Since last week, when i turn the camera on, appears the message "for use with compatible battery only". The battery came with the camera. The camera was bought in a big store in Philadelphia. I WILL NEVER BUY A SONY CAMERA AGAIN. I already tried to reset, tried to remove the battery and the problem persists.
