Question about MTX Thunder 1501D Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

Mtx 1501d i have a mtx 1501d. i have proper power source - 2 one farad rockford fosgate capacitors buss bar'd together and 1/0 gauge wire. it powers up normal and produces sound, BUT not sufficient sound. the gain is not making much difference in sound from minimum to max, and the only way you can tell is by turning up the EQ and frequency. it won't do anything, then you turn it up and gives some sound... but nothing serious for it's capabilities - maybe 200 or 300 watts worth of power. if you have all of the knobs - freq., eq, and gain turned down, it produces zero sound, but you can feel the current in the subwoofers. besides not producing enough massive power, i have another exact amp in a differ vehicle w/ the gain 3/4 of the way up and both the eq and freq. down and it goes crazy so i know something is wrong. can you help me any?

Will my car handle a rockford fosgat 801s power load?

Hello dreww1005,

If your alternator and battery are in good condition, you probably don't need a capacitor. At maximum output, the 801S will need to draw a little over 30 amps at 12.8V. The specifications call for 8-gauge power and ground wiring and a 40A primary fuse. The Vibe's electrical system should be able to handle it OK.

Hope this helps.

Not a problem just a question

  • 100 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms
  • 200 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms
  • 400 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms in bridged mode
  • stereo or bridged mono output
  • 4-ohm stable in bridged mode
  • Tri-Way capable
  • requires 8-gauge power and ground leads — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
  • 50-250 Hz high-pass/low-pass (12 dB/octave) crossovers
  • wired remote included for fingertip control of Punch Bass (0-18 dB boost at 45 Hz)
  • MOSFET power supply and output devices
  • MEHSA mounting technology increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET output devices to the heat sink, for higher power output, lower operating temperatures, and greater reliability
  • TOPAZ — noise-killing differential inputs that eliminate 80% of ground loop noise
  • Trans•ana circuitry keeps preamp voltages low and signal paths simple for outstanding audio quality
  • NOMAD — advanced protection circuitry for "intelligent" shutdown protection
  • speaker- and preamp-level inputs
  • 11-1/8"W x 2-3/8"H x 9-7/8"D

  • Wire your sub in bridged mode (4 ohm mono)
    + to + on amplifier
    - to - on amplifier
    (using bridging terminals)

I have been having trouble with my car stereo system

First reinspect your power and ground connections, vibration may have loosened them.

Then be sure that amp location has proper ventilation, (overheating will cause shout down)
A 2400 in a closed space will definitely need exhaust fans to help circulate cool air around the amp.

The cap should be mounted close to the amp and properly charged before use. It is connected in-line with the main power lead paying close attention to the power in and power out terminals.

Power in = from the battery
Power out = to the amp

    Good luck

    Amp stoped working

You need to run a larger power/ground cable. If you are reading low, you are not getting the kind of voltage that the amplifier requires to run, you may have been fine before adding the other products but if you wired them all to the same power wire (say an 8 gauge) you'd encounter problems. You should probably use a 2 gauge or at least a 4 gauge power kit.

The 1501 is very similar to the 81000 but there are important differences. The 1501 is a better amp.

If you turn the gain up and down, does the woofer move in and out in direct relation to the rotation of the gain?

What do you mean by "you only feel current going through subs"?

    Clueless..!

You either are suffering from phase problems with the way you have your subs wired or you fried them and just don't realize it. I sell the TE1501D and these amps are not poorly made, they are however too powerful (1500+ @ 1ohm) for most subs on the market to handle continiously.

    Rockford amp cut out

Disconnect all speaker wires from the speaker terminals of the amp and disconnect the RCAs. Replace the 30 amp fuse with a 15 amp fuse. If you turn it on and it blows the fuse, it's likely that it has shorted output transistors. If that's the case, you need to have the amp repaired.
