I have Kenmore side by side Model 59587990. Would my model have the energy saver switch? My food is not cold. The rubber around the door frame is still hot. Do you think my motor is going out? Thanks for your help.

If you have a model with an energy saver switch turn the switch on. This reduces the heat to the mullion heater built into the door frame.
The door frame heater is used to prevent moisture from condensing on the seal surface around the door and acts as a thermal break between the outside and temperature inside the refrigerator.

You may need to clean under the refrigerator. The condenser that transfers heat from the refrigeration system to the room air could be restricted by dust collecting on the surfaces. Your food not being cold points to other than your energy saver switch. Check your freezer compartment for snow build-up on the back wall. If you have any snow on the back wall you have a defrost problem.

If it is running continuously and not freezing in the refrigerator the problem could be in the settings of your controls. If the freezer is set to cold the refrigerator will possibly not get enough air to allow it to cool enough to reach the cycle temperature. If these answers where of any help to you please kindly rate it.

After replacing the condenser fan make sure you re-install the panel in back that you removed to change out the fan motor. This panel being in place determines proper air flow pattern for cooling the operating system.

Why does the rubber sealer on refridgerator door and freezer door get hot

Inside the frame is a warm bit of pipework, or sometimes a mullion heater, that stops the seal freezing to the frame.

Why does the front frame get real hot aroune top and bottom doors?

In some units the condenser coils run inside the outer walls of the fridge and this area can get warm. If its really hot check the visible coils at the rear and underneath the unit they may be badly clogged with dust, which cause the rest of the system to run much hotter since the airflow to the lower ones is blocked off. Make sure you clean all visible coils at least every 6 months. This will also cut down on the energy use.

Door frame really hot. What's wrong?what do I trouble shoot?

It is common for manufactures to either install a heater around the freezer door frame or run a loop of the condenser coils around the frame. If it is very hot I suspect that it is a condenser loop. Try cleaning the coils under or in back of the refrigerator. they may be clogged or the cooling fan is stalled and the compressor is working hard to cool the coils. this is the most common reason. the other cause id poor refrigeration. and the cool of the freezer isn't compensating for the heat of the coils.

Side by side refridge was dirty and I cleaned

I would pull the refrig out , and remove the back panel , covering the compressor and fan motor . Check to see if the fan is working . Fan not working , causes the divider panel , to get very hot . Also , fan not working , causes the compressor to over heat and cut off on the overload .

Front metal , top heating element very hot

This should be OK. There are heat strips placed behind the door frame to prevent sweating around the door frame due to the metal being cold normally without the strips. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Door frame is always hot on freexer side

Is it hot all the way around, or just on the face of the divider between the freezer and fridge? If it's just the divider, then it's probably not a defrost problem. When that divider gets hot, it usually means there is inadequate air flow over the condenser coils outside the unit.

When the compressor is running, check for air blowing under the unit. If no air is moving, then you probably have a failed condenser fan. If the fan is running, then use your vacuum cleaner to clean the coils, and make sure there is space behind the fridge for air to flow.

Warm to Hot molding that seals the doors

The heat in door frame is normal but undetectable when ref at normal temp. Definitely cooling problem. Google ref not cold enough to get help to solve problem. Never use any oil for it will not help also health problem if not approved to be used around food. Fan motor must be replaced for it will just keep stopping.

Frigidaire side by side refridge

pull the kick plate off under the doors. if you look in behind the kick plate youll see alot of dust build up. this area needs to be cleaned once a year to keep air flowing properly over the condenser coils. if the dust build up is minimal then remove back panel of refrigerator and make sure the fan is running behind the refrigerator. if not, or if running real slow replace the fan motor. the heat is the because the condenser is getting too hot. it needs to be fix or the compressor life will be greatly shortend

Door frame around freezer door is very hot for a long time in side-by-side refrigerator/freezer

The problem you describe is caused by the hot gas pipe that runs around the cabinet, this is normal for it too get warm, the only reason it would be very hot is that for some reason the gases are not being cooled, probable cause is that the condenser is blocked with dust or fluff, depending on axact version some are located behind the plastic trim that runs below the doors and others are in the back behind the lower rear panel.
