My kirby handle won't stay upright and I need to replace the pivot assembly switch. I have the owner's manual and I have seen a diagram of the parts on the internet, but I am wondering how to crack the case. It seems like it's using hex keys, but I was wondering if there are specific instructions, or a manual, or special hex key tools or anything. I have found web site to order part, but don't know if the part comes with instructions . . . . .

The handle pivot is set too far back on it's slide. It will be necessary to remove the handle, switch plate, and upper motor shell to access the slide. Two large phillips screws hold the pivot assembly to the slide. The pivot must be loosened and moved ahead very slightly, while centering the slide in place.
The plate that catches the handle to lock has a hidden spring behind that plate.I would leave it alone for the unit is pressed together. Used ones are found most everyday on Ebay. The owners manual maybe found on this website
The handle just snaps into place on the top. there is a handle pivot, it goes in that. The bag, put over the exhaust hole on the right side, make sure it locks into place, the bag top will snap into the top part of the handle.
Just take the handle off, rermove the 2 screws on the front of the cover, remove the plastic piece on the back of the top, then remove the 2 screws and the top cover will come off. There are 2 screws holding the handle pivot on, remove those. Install the new pivot making sure that it alines with the transmissing on the left side, re-install the 2 screws and make sure they are tight. Then put the rest back together.
Ok, the hose goes on the front. The light should lift up then, the front emblem rotates. this releases the belt from drive shaft. Underneath where the light was, there will be a release lever, which will release the entire front end where the brushes are located.
Once removed, you will see the intake fan and bar beneath it. The hose hooks to this bar. Then to the left of intake, there is a safety switch. The end of the hose has an arm that will fit into this safety switch.
Once hose is in place, the release lever that loosened the brushes will now tighten the hose.
The bag stays in the same place. If you have the 2nd handle attachment, you can use that to replace the upright handle. The release button on back side of handle.
I own a G4 and used to sell the G6 which was right before the one you own. The G3 thru Ultimate G are work in the same manner just different colors.
I assume you are talking about the release on the handle pivot. Unhook the bag so it is out of the way, take the hanle off, take the top cover off, then there 2 screws holding the handle oivot asm, take them out, replace witht he new one, making sure that the the piece that hangs down meshes with the transmission. Then reasmble.
