Tip

No Audio/Sound

The computer is in amuted state
There are a few ways this can be fixed; one is to press the mute buttonon your keyboard if there is one. The other way is to go onto control panel, select "hardware and sound" then select sound, click your chosenaudio device , chose properties then chose the "levels" tab and makesure the audio output is not in a muted state if so click the speaker button toturn it off mute.

The headphones or specks are not connected to the pc or have become unattached
Make sure the headphones/specks lead is plugged into the correct portwhether being a USB port or audio port depending on the device. This may be inthe back/front of a computer, the monitor, keyboard or external audio adapter.

  • Green is for speakers
  • Blue is Line In
  • Pink is Microphone

You have selected a certain application to be muted while others are not muted

To check if an application has been muted, click on the little arrow onthe windows start up bar by the clock normally, and select speakers. You willthen get a new window showing any application requiring audio. If one has beenmuted the speaker below it will have a red mark on it, click the speaker buttonand it will no longer be muted.

Your sound device is not selected

To change the sound device, click on the little arrow on the windowsstart up bar by the clock normally, and select speakers. A new window willdisplay with a column saying device, there will be a drop down menu under apicture of a speaker where you can change the speaker's audio device.

Update audio driver

Your audio device may need a driver update, the updates can normally befound
On manufacture websites (Look at this page for more details http://www.fixya.com/support/r9159178-drivers

Try different speakers

Try different speaker/headphones to see if your speakers are broke.

Check the sound driver is installed

Go to control panel and find device manger this is normally under thesystems area. Click on "sound, video and game controllers" tab, ifthe audio hardware device is there, then you know the computer is aware of theaudio hardware driver however if it has a yellow mark next to the device,
This would indicate that the computer is aware of the driver however it doesnot have the correct drivers for it to work. This is where you are required to lookfor drivers sometime off a website or a CD http://www.fixya.com/support/r9159178-drivers

I bought a Gwc aa1500 5.1 audio usb adapter for my laptop. I tried plugging my axpro headphones into the adapter but all the audio seems to be coming through the front speakers. How can i get it to go...

This is an issue with the driver or configuration.

Make sure you have the latest updated drivers for the device

When sound is coming from front for 5.1 system, its most probably to do with settings.Stereo mode Outputs from front speakers only. Try finding a radio button inside sound settings for 5.1 Audio system.

It is most probably found under " Speaker Configuration" Settings.

Speakers not working. message about no audio devices are installed. was fine, then this ****. and don't give my email address to any companies sending me emails 5 times a day

Don't have your email, but try restoring your pc back to the last save point. If that fixes it, good. If not you have sound card issues. You could try to reinstall drives after restore as well.

I try using realtek ac97 audio driver for win xp 3 but it stated device cannot start error code 10

"No Active Mixer Device installed".....
The Sound and Audio issue of Windows.....the infamous issue being faced by many PC/Laptop/Notebook users all over the world....on clicking the volume control icon in the task bar near the clock.....or....Sound and Audio Devices Grayed Out in the Control Panel

Go to Device Manager, select Sound, Audio and Games Ctlr expand (+) press the plus sign, go one by one on all those that show a speaker image...select each one by one and right click, and if it has the "uninstall" option...just uninstall.
Dont do any thing further....shut down pc/laptop
Then...u need to go into system BIOS
1 - Start PC/Laptop...press DEL or F1/F2/Insert/Home key...this selection of key to go into BIOS depends upon ur type of PC in some Del key works in some F1/F2 key works to go into BIOS....you need to do this before the WindowsXP screen appears....get into BIOS...
2 - Scroll/go to On Board Peripherals...press enter...next screen....
3 Look for
A- "On Board audio"
B- "AC97 audio" or any thing that says "Audio"
C- "Look for anything that says "MIDI" with some numbers 301,205 etc in [ ]
just Disable all the above by using PgUP PGDN key
Press F10 and chose Yes to save the setting in BIOS
or use Save and Exit in BIOS

Let WinXP load...go to Device Manager...go to Sound Audio and Games Controller...check all those that you uninstalled earlier if they RE-Appear...

It should NOT......Re-appear.....if it does then do the above process once more.

U are now all set for the next move....

U need to spend just 1$ to buy this product on Ebay...you can buy any similar product of your choice but it must have the audio and mic output ports like this one has...and must be able to connect to your USB port of your PC/Laptop

This below image and product name is only for your info, you can buy any such similar product available in your area....but it's must have the Audio and Mic output ports like the one on the image below and must be able to connect to your PC/Laptops USB ports...

"USB 2.0 Mic Speaker 5.1 Audio Sound Card ADAPTER #9340"

You can Google it and locate it where you can buy...

Connect it to a USB port, connect your speakers/mic to the correct audio/mic slots in this device....WinXP will auto install this hardware and you will get back your Volume Control Icon...and all functions will work in Control Panel (Sound and audio Devices)...

My speakers no longer work and I am getting a message that states "no audio device is installed." The only change since the last time I know my sound/speakers worked was prior to relocating my computer to...

*The audio service may not be started***
Go to Start>> Run>> type in services.msc.

A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio>> Right-click on Windows Audio>>Select 'Properties'. Make sure that 'Startup' is set to automatic. Click Apply and okay...Now check the startup status under services..Make sure it says started. If not look to the left and click start service...
Let me know if this works...

I want to play audio files but the message comes that there is no audio device in my laptop.

first of all check if you have the integrated sound card or an external sound card on the computer.in case you have any of these try checking if you have connected the speakers in the correct port or not.the other thing is the audio drivers.check if they are installed in device manager or not if they have some bang on them try uninstalling & reinstalling the audio drivers.
