Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I've been having an odd issue with my speakers on my computer. After some perfectly fine use, playing music, games, etc, the left speaker suddenly stops putting out sound. Plugging in my ipod, both speakers work fine so it has to be computer related. All my balance settings for the sound are right in the middle. I have noticed that it seems to happen during or around the time I play the game Diablo 2, but don't see how this would affect the sound channels (except maybe that diablo 2 has "compatability issues" due to running on windows 7..?). Restarting the computer always fixes the issue until the left speaker cuts out again. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with onboard sound on an Asus motherboard.

Thannks for the response. I have tried this already and the problem persists...a friend of mine thinks it could be a short in the audio controller, as this can reset when the power is reset. May have to end up getting a sound card.

Intermittent problems are always the hardest to diagnose but I would start by going to the device manager and deleting the sound drivers. Then a reboot and as your machine restarts it will reinstall the soundcard drivers and if the game has corrupted the drivers that should your your problem. Should it continue you will need to find updated drivers for Windows 7.

There are other issues to do with balancing the impedence of the sound card output and the speakers ie: the sound card impedence should I believe match the speakers.
You may get some information from either a computer dictation group or a speaker and micophone group. Win7 64 bit has some strange things that can go wrong.

Try another set of speakers to eleiminate the BOSE speakers as being the issue (even cheap ones will do). If the problem does not re-occur, the issue is with the speakers.
If all the speaker jacks are plugged in correctly, I would consider returning this set, as it looks like the issue is within the circuitry of the Woofer

I have a similar reoccuring problem with the left channel on my speakers. All of a sudden, while playing music or whatever, the left channel jusr dies. Turning the system off and then on again from the conrol unit does not remedy the situation. By chance, I discovered a workaround to get the left channel working again: Push the main power switch of the subwoofer until it almost switches off and then release it so that the power is never actually switched off. Now a click is heard in the system and the left channel comes alive again. This is quite annoying and seems to have something to do with switches in the subwoofer. Low quality components may have been used. I 've been thinking of getting another 2.1 system, but it's not easy to find one... Maybe I should open the subwoofer box and go through the switches and possibly hardwire some connections...

Most of the sounds you are hearing good are background sounds. If you are running a surround system, you might want to try adjusting the output of your primary speakers, checking for the correct setting on your receiver, and verifying that your central audio is in the correct section ( receiver output ).

If you are not using surround sound,
Check the in-game menu (Pause) for an audio section, some games allow you to turn the character voices up and the music down. If you don't have that option, try using a new output cord from your xbox to Tv.

My speakers stopped working suddenly

Hello....No Sound, No Volume Control, Mixer not Found, No Sound device installed…etc etc, This is a generic issue with Windows OS....many of the users are facing this issue....
1 - r u facing NO Audio/Sound issue...?
2 - is ur Volume Control not responding ?
3 - is ur Sound and Audio Device in Control Panel Grayed out ?
4 - Do u get a msg "No Active Mixer Devices Installed....when u try to open Volume Ctrl etc etc ?

if ur ans to any one of them is Yes...then u are being spammed by Microsoft....ur Sound Control IRQ is being frozen by a recent update from Microsoft....NOTE..VERY..IMPORTANT...no file update or any sound driver update can fix it, neither Microsoft is issuing any patch to fix it….

Full solution is available in my website (Support page)...it's quite simple process to fix it, and I am not charging any money, just trying to do some service.

Esmurfette

First things First!
1) check on other speakers to see if your iPod work fine
2) check connector for loosing electric connectivity.
3) check with your headphones to see if your iPod play music well.
4) Check, power on the computer spk. you got. or the input that is working right.
Good Luck

Left side don't play/ right side is perfect

You sound like you have a wire connection problem but to find out try using a spare pair of speakers or try headphones. Try to rule out any wierd system problem, but I don't think that is your problem. Since this problem went away and then came back reduces the likely hood that it is a power issue so I would go with wiring issues or connection problems. While you are playing music. Move the cable, bend it, and reinsert it a few times. Give the cable a work out. If it comes back while this is happening, you have an open connection. You will need to replace the speaker wiring.

No background music in games such is Battlefield 2, COD2

I would check what sound settings your individual games are running at. Sometimes when you have the sound set to something your speakers don't fully support (DTS, Dolby Digital, etc.) you'll get some sound and not others. This also happens when you try to push sound to a different number of speakers then you have (5.1 sound to 2.1 speakers, etc.)
