Question about Hayward SAND FILTER, PRO SERIES

My Hayward Sand Filter Tank has sprung a leak on the side of the tank not near where it looks like the tank might have been molded together. What can I use to patch the tank that will hold and not leak?

They are fiberglass ... fiberglass repair kit should do it ...

Im not so sure I would fix it ... if it is broken ... there are probably problems you cannot see ... might be cheaper to replace the tank when you consider what might happen if it breaks while you are not around.

I have a Hayward Pro Series Sand Filter. I turned on the pump and water is gushing out of the side of the tank where a connection goes into the tank from the bottom of the valve assembly

I don't know but if there is a hole in the tank it should be connected and sealed to the lower valve pipe. If you are missing parts to the connection, they are available at a good pool supply store. If the tank is broken even those are available. I hope this helps.

Just installed a new filter and 1 month old sand from defective filter. Removed the cardboard cover used to prevent sand from going into pipe. Piped everything together and no leaks. When I try to run the...

Too much sand or wrong type of sand in the tank are two possibilities; should tell you on the side of the label how much sand to put in but generally it fills to about half way up the tank body.

Are you getting sand back in the pool at all? If not it is unlikely the sand is the issue since too small a grain would pass thru the laterals and get to the pool.

Have you used any clarifiers in the water? Over-dosing with a clarifier can literally turn the top of the sand bed into mortar impeding the flow of water.

Installing vari flo top mount valve on hayward filter. Should the the two C clamps come together tightly when install is complete or should there be a gap on the ends? Example (-) vs ()

There is a gap at the ends; about 3/16 to 1/4" give or take. Just hand tighten them and if the valve leaks a little tighten them a little more at a time to avoid splitting the clamps by overtightening.

My hayward sand filter is leaking out of the side seam. Can I seal it? Thank you for any help.

Most likely not This is tough plastic, and you have have water pressure in tank. Did the filter get overpressured? Did it freeze in the winter. Try Craig's list for a good used filter.

Hayward sand filter leaks

You can try different epoxy's but they usually won't hold as the filter expands when running this will break any seal where you put it.You can check into warrentys. A lot of these filters had good warrentys on the tanks that went longer than valve or internal's. if you have install dates and model #'s. Check on line with Hayward.

Worse comes to worse you can drill out a small hole amd using stanless steel go with a bolt and nut with washers and rubber washers in the middle. when you set it seal it all with silicone and after it is tight let it set for eight hours or so. Good luck.

I have a Hayward sand filter and the top is cracked and leaks. When I patch it, it just cracks somewhere else

those tanks are designed to hold alot of pressure. If it is cracked, it's already unsafe. When the pump turns on, the tanks usually flex a little bit, depending on your system. The flexing usually makes the patch come undone. It's best, and safer, to replace the filter tank.

I have a 166T hayward filter. The gray filter

I don't think you can buy just the filter tank. Most places only sell the filter tank w/skirt, drain & lateral assembly as a single unit. If the crack is more than an inch or two long I would not risk repairing it as there can be upwards of 30psi when the filter is dirty (safety issue). You can try some epoxy on it if its a very small leak but the success rate for that kind of repair is not very good.

Sand in my waste water

O-rings or gasket are replaced to stop leaks, so that wouldn't have helped you.

It could be one of two things; either the white PCV-like pipe in the filter tank is cracked OR some of the laterals at the very bottom of the tank, under the sand, has melted. A whole new underdrain assembly is usually $70.

Instructions on placement of the lateral assmebly w/center pegs

That placement is automatic based on the center pipe resting on the bottom of the filter tank and the valve being fully seated into the opening on top of the filter and clamped into possition. You likely have damaged laterals and need to replace that assembly in order to fix the sand issue. When refilling the tank with sand, be sure to fill it nearly half way with water before adding the sand.
