Let me understand, you p[lug in you oven and the broiler will automaticalle start??? not allowing you to cancel???? if that s the case unplug and remove the back panel from tyhe range, sound sas if the wire leading to the broil ignitor has shorted itself against the cabinet of the range itself, look for whiter braided wires at broiler hieght, chances arte they are hitting against hte cabinet right near the vent area.

Turn on broiler, select hi or lo, wait, broiler won't light, no gas smell inside oven either so gas is not even flowing to the broiler element. What's wrong?

I hate to ask the obvious, but have you verified that the gas is turned on? If your main gas shutoff valve is outside, someone may have turned the valve off.... If you have other gas appliances, do they work OK? Valves can be different, but usually a valve is "on" when the handle parallels the pipe, and "off" when the handle is turned cross-wise to the pipe.

I have a ge spectra gas range and the broiler works but oven wont work?

Check to see if the igniter glows white hot. The igniter needs to be glowing white hot before it will allow the valve to open and lite. Here is the part to order if you find it bad. Post back the results.

GE profile JGSP44 Oven stopped working

Ignitor needs to be working for the gas valve to open. If the ignitor does not reach the proper amp draw the gas valve will not open. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru performing an amp draw test on the ignitor.

The oven pilot does not light. The broiler will not work. The only thing that does is the light. GE XL44 range. The burners light and the pilots stay lit.

If you have standing pilots, make sure the pilot for the oven/broiler is lit as well.  When you turn the thermostat up to call for heat, you should see the pilot get larger. That larger pilot flame heats a hydraulic sensor and opens the main burner valve.

Bake does not work but broiler does.

OK, it is likley that the oven ignitor isn't working and needs to be replaced. To verify if this is the problem, when you turn on the oven to BAKE and set the temp at say, 350. Watch through the window, (or you can have the door open). Look at the bottom, back, center and see if you see a bright orange glow appearing under the bottom panel.

If you don't, that is why the oven won't lit the gas. There is an ignitor for both the broiler burner at the top and for the bake burner in the oven compartment.

The reason that the temp display reverts to 100 degrees is because that is the lowest default temp setting for the display and until the oven temp actually starts to increase, it won't change. So the temp display is working correctly for the BAKE function.

Here's a line drawing showing the part you may need. Ignitor Part # WB13T10045. The good news is that your oven uses the same ignitor for both the broiler and bake burner tubes, so you could swap them if you wish to confirm that is the problem before you go and order/buy a new one. These aren't cheap at $91 bucks, but you can shop around the web for a better price if you determine you need one.

Sometimes the ignitor burns out half way through but because it still lits/glows, people think it's OK, but it won't get hot enough to signal the gas valve to open and allow gas to ignite and get the oven cooking.

Hope this helps you out and remember to disconnect the oven from the electric power before performing any repair work. Best regards!

    Broiler works but oven wont.

There is a valve on the rear to contorl the flow of gas to the oven that can be turned off or can go bad. Check it to make sure it hasn't gotten switched off and if its still not working (with swith flipped in the opposite direction) you probably have a bad valve

GE Profile Spectra XL 44 gas oven

If you can smell the gas when you turn on the oven, it may be on a separate igniter that has gone bad. I would check this first. If you are not getting gas to the oven, there is possibly an issue with the supply line.
