Yes, the wires for your thermostat are low voltage 24volts, and there is a fuse that protects it, now if the fuse is gone, nothing will work until you separate the wires and put a new fuse, the fuse is inside the ac unit, if you cant find it, that means it doesnt have one. there for need to check voltage at the transformer.

Is the furnace fan (indoor fan ) running. If not the problem is with the inside unit. It supplies the control power to operate the entire system and has a control fuse on the circuit board. If it is running but not the outside unit then the problem is outside.

When the thermostat turns off, the condensing unit continues to run. The old contactor was sticking. I could go out and tap on the side of the electrical box beside the compressor, and the contactor...

You most likely have a short. Start by removing the wire on the terminal marked y in the t- stat then see if it shuts down. Look in the air handler for wires touching together. I have also eound wires touching in the wall from the t-stat.

Carrier 38CKC042300. oUTSIDE UNIT FAN WAS TURNING REAL SLOW. ac UNIT IS OFF BUT FAN TO OUTSIDE UNIT IS STILL TURNING. sHOULD NOT BE TURNING AT ALL WITH AC UNIT OFF

The outside fan may run if the unit is in defrost mode this is normal for most heat pumps it is there way of trying to keep the outside unit from staying iced over so the next time the unit runs it will have air flow through the coil and the ice will not be there to prevent air flow.

Carrier air conditioner will not turn on.

It could be the capacitor, or the relay switch on the main unit. Also, if you have had anyone doing yard work, they could have cut your thermostat wires by accident.

Can't get my programable thermostat

when the dog chewed on the wires were there any bare spots where the wires could touch one another, if so the transformer is is probably bad or if there's a fuse in the 24 volt line then it is bad.

That wire is to your thermostat which of course turns the A/C on/off. One thing you can do is to splice the wire back together w/ small wire nuts (available at hardware store or wal-mart, and just hook it up color to color and then tape w/ electrical tape. Make sure you turn your breaker off and turn off the thermostat control.

Carrier XHD183D Through-the-Wall Heater/AC runs constantly

YOU COULD EITHER HAVE A THERMOSTAT PROBLEM OR FAN CONTROL PROBLEM.TURN THE POWER OFF AT THE FURNACE AND TAKE THE THERMOSTAT OFF THE WALL.MAKE SURE YOU MARK THE WIRES SO YOU KNOW HOW TO HOOK IT BACK UP AGAIN.RESTORE POWER TO THE FURNACE.TOUCH THE WIRES THAT WERE HOOKED TO THE R & G TERMINALS ON THE T-STAT TOGETHER AND HOLD THEM THERE.OBSERVE THE OPERATION. WHEN YOU TAKE THEM APART DOES THE BLOWER STOP?TRY IT A FEW TIMES. IF IT CONTINUES TO START AND STOP YOU GOT A BAD T-STAT.JEFF
