Brother MFC 9180 Printed pages have ridged type ink/smudge line down whole left hand side of paper. Paper and print elsewhere is fine but paper underneath the markings appears to be crinkled and not smooth like the rest of the paper.

SOURCE: I get a white line

Try cleaning the optics and the charge corona. If you do not have the operators manual which outlines the proceedure, go to www.welcome.solutions.brother.com. The proceedure is in the CLEANING documentation. Make sure the wire cleaner is pushed all the way back to its home position. Otherwise, the white line may return if the cleaner is left in the expoure path. IF THE WHITE LINE APPEARS ON PRINTED PAGES GENERATED BY YOUR COMPUTER, THE WIRE CLEANER IS THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE.. IF THE WHITE LINE APPEARS ON PRINTS THAT WERE SCANNED USING THE BROTHER SCANNER, THE OPTICS MAY BE SMUDGED. LOOK FOR CORRECTION FLUID ON THE GLASS **** (THE NARROW SCAN GLASS). THIS IS THE USUAL CAUSE.

SOURCE: 3-INCH WIDE VERTICAL LINES RUND DOWN LEFT SIDE OF FAX MACHINE

Do your incoming faxes have the same marks?
If not you might find that the scanning part of your machine has a dirty mark on the glass or that the unit has become faulty.
Try and take a copy from the machine and print from a report or any print from memory.
If you have the black lines on both then i'd suggest getting a new drum unit, if u have it only on the copy I would have a look at your scanner glass and see if there is a dirty mark on it. if not maybe call out an engineer as the scanner unit maybe faulty.
Need anymore help msg me.

How to make duplex copies with a Brother MFC-240C printer

The Brother MFC-240C is a well-performing multifunction color printer. There is a lot that it can do, but one limitation it has is the inability to make double-sided copies. If you need to make a duplex copy of something, you can do it manually by re-feeding the paper once you've copied the first side.

After the first side of the page has been printed, let the paper sit for a minute or so to make sure the ink has dried. Then, put it back into the paper tray on the top of the stack. Make sure the back side of the page (the side that has not been printed on yet) is facing down, and the lead edge of the page (the edge that was fed out of the printer first) is facing toward the inside of the printer, rather than toward you.

Once the paper is set, push the tray back in and print the document or image that you want to appear on the back of the page. If you are printing multiple pages, position the paper so that the page you want printed on first is on the top of the stack.

The MFC-240C was not designed for duplex printing, so you may run into some issues with it, especially when you are using very thick or very thin paper. With very thin paper, the ink may bleed through to the other side of the page. With very thick paper, you may have to let the paper sit for a longer time after the first side is printed, because the ink could take longer to set and dry.

My Brother HL1230 printer prints with whole lines of text missing several times on a page and gets worse by missing more lines if printing several pages. It has a new toner cartridge. How can I sort this...

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Black smudge streaks on rightside of printed/copied material

Can only be two things the drum or the fuser. More than likely drum they last about 4 toners i think.

Learn the art of getting a page to stop halfway threw printing, you want to stop the page after the drum has put a image on the paper but before paper has gone threw the fuser (hotbit).

Once you have mastered the position correctly by stopping the printing by opening the door and removing drum/toner cartridge, to reveal the paper that is printed but can be rubbed off, we will know if marks are coming from the drum (you will see them) or from the fuser, if print is fine.
