My player turns itself off after playing a movie for about 2-3 minutes. I have returned it to the store twice and got a new one on each occasion, but every new one keeps doing the same thing! I have set the Parental Control to Adult but to no avail.

it could be the disc itself dvds really don't age that well a common problem is that one day they just decide to freeze and stop working even though they had only been played a few times the most extreme would be your situation. I would suggest trying newer dvds out if same problem occurs then it is a problem with the dvd player.
I had the same problem -- we even returned the disc and got a new one.
Go to the Vizio site and download the firmware for your player. Put it
on a USB stick and plug it into the player. Follow the onscreen
instructions (basically just press OK). The entire process takes less
than 5 minutes from download to finish.
This can happen that the movie will play once just fine and then have problems the next time. You have to go to the blu ray player's menu and down to system reset and complete the system reset before attempting to play the movie again. You can also hold down the power button on the front of the unit until it says reset. You will need to complete the one from the unit though to get the movie to play again. If that doesn't work you may need to send it in for repairs or return the unit.
dudes really simple as i couldnt watch 2012 amazing movie ! get a usb stick go to the site that is your make or model say for example: ( philips blu-ray bdp3000 go to philips and software and downloads after selected model )
download the firmware open as winRAR or documents u should see the choice of two folders select them both and extract them to your usb stick and done ! stick in your blu-ray player settings advanced software usb and download and wait should not take more than 2 mins for everything to be working !!!!
Occasionally the software on most blu-ray players needs to be updated to the newest technology. The reason some discs play and some don't is because the discs that play are most-likely older movies or from a company that still used the "outdated" software. So the discs that don't play (most likely discs made with the updated software) won't play on your player until you've update the player's software. To do this visit, in your case, Sony's website for update info. There are a few ways you can get the info. You can download it directly to your player (if it has online accessibility) or you can request that they send you an update disc. Either way, most companies provide the update for free. Hope this helps, good luck!
When you say turns off do you meen power switches off or just stops playing.A good test is to play a cd,if this plays ok the problem is more than likely laser related and with the cost of replacing the laser being so expensive,it can be cheaper to replace player itself.Have you tried cleaning the lens assy with cleaning disc??
