Question about Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Graphic Calculator

You
must have used the TRANSFRM application before. It remains in memory
and takes over the graphing function from the native OS. You must unload
it from memory.

- Turn calculator ON
- Press the [APPS] button.
- Scroll Up (faster) or Scroll down till you see :Transfrm in the list of applications.
- Highlight that line and press ENTER.
- The new screen invites you to Uninstall or Continue
- Press the number key that corresponds to the Uninstall option (1:Uninstall)
- Return to your [Y=] editor screen to verify that the style lines have changed to the "normal" ones.

Now is the equation supposed to be y=2x+1? If so,

The graph of y = 2x+1 is a straight line

When x increases, y increases twice as fast, hence 2x

When x is 0, y is already 1. Hence +1 is also needed

So: y = 2x + 1

Here are some example values:

-1y = 2 × (-1) + 1 = -1

0y = 2 × 0 + 1 = 1

1y = 2 × 1 + 1 = 3

2y = 2 × 2 + 1 = 5

Check for yourself that those points are part of the line above!

You might not see the scatter plot when you go to the graph because the boundaries are not set correctly. With the scatter plot turned on, go to "zoom" and then scroll down to "zoomStat" and hit enter. Try going to the graph again and see if the the scatter plot shows up. As for the the equation being slightly different than the examples, this is probably just the calculator rounding up the answers it gets.

The following should help you draw several graphs.

When you enter a function you should press [ENTER] to validate. At the same time, the cursor moves to the next line. Verify that the = sign on the equation already entered is still highlighted.

If for some reason the = sign of an equation is no longer highlighted, use arrow keys to move cursor on the = sign and press [ENTER].

If only one = sign remains highlighted and all others are not, then in all probability the application Transfrm has been executed before and is still lingering in RAM. When in RAM, it takes over the graphing capabilities of the native OS. This prevents you from drawing more than one graph.You must unload it from memory.

When you press [STAT] and right Arrow to highlight CALC you see two linear regression model [4:LinReg(ax+b)] and [8:LinReg(a +bx)]

If you select [4: ...] the command echoes on main calculator screen as LinReg(ax+b) and a blinking cursor

If you press [ENTER] you will get your equation, a, b, and r^2 if DiagnosticsOn command has been executed before. However you will not be able to see the line of best fit on top of the raw data scatter plot.

In the Y= equation editor you can enter two functions, and graph them both or calculate a table for both. However, the two functions will be evaluated at the same values of X.

Rather than trying to guess what is happening, I will show you how to get your two tables.

If you have used one the applications** Inequalz **or **Transform** it si probably still stuck in memory, and you must unload it from the RAM before recovering the usual calculator behavio(u)r

Press [2nd][GRAPH] (Table) to see your 2 tables y1 and y2 calculated at the same X.

- Calculator replies Done.

Press [2nd][GRAPH] (Table) to see your 2 tables y1 and y2 calculated at the same X.
