LG rear projection convergence issue, can it be fixed without replacing parts?

Hey guys, my bro is having trouble with his tv so I thought I’d ask around online to get some opinions and hopefully some help. Ok so this all started with his rear projection tv, one day it just stopped working. The little red standby light was still on but it wouldn’t power up. If you tried to turn it on it would make the sound it makes when it starts up but then after ten seconds it would make the shutdown sound and that’s it.

So my brother figured it was a power supply issue and found another tv exactly the same with picture issues. He swapped over the power supply board I think it was but when he tried turning it on it blew.

So he sourced a third tv with picture issues. This time we done a little reading and found out it could be the IC’s, so we swapped our original IC board which was fine, with the defective one in the third tv. The picture was still out of whack, but much better than with the other IC board. I managed to get into the service menu in the hopes of finding some sort of value that would alter only the red, green or blue colours but 90% of whats in there is confusing as its not explained and mostly shorthand anyway.

So now we’re not sure what to do next. If we could figure out how to move the edges of each colour in and out our problem would be solved as the middle is fine and the horizontal alignment seems to be good too. Here’s a picture of how it looks at the moment. The blue could do with some clockwise angling too I think. Any ideas????

I'd love to help, but without a make and model, littel can be said. Also, when you attempt to turn the set on, does the standby light blink at all? If so, how many times?

At this point, you need to have a complete convergence done. This can only be done with the service manual as there is a specific order in which the adjustments must be made. Search the web for the service manual ($15 or so) and follow the steps for convergence adjustment. That should resolve the issue. Basically, each set has to be adjusted according to the circuit values inside. Because all of the parts have at least a 5% tolerance level, there will be some differences, thus the need for adjustment capability. Using a board from one set in another will show the circuit value differences as you have seen.

I have a LG RT54NAT1T rear projection TV. The colours are not lining up

That issue is caused by the convergence chips going bad. They both need to be replaced as well as some of the resistor may be bad. To fix the board it usually runs around 300 to 350 dollers. You an order these parts yourself on the net from several places and they have instructions for the replacement of the boards or the convergence chips.

I have a RCA HD52W59 TV. Shuts off automatically.

Power supply is my initial thoughts, but then again it could be that one of the three CRT's tubes has an issue.
My thoughts is that it would be best to bring it to a good TV repair shop.
Why spend money on a power supply and then find out it's a CRT.

PT-53wx53g Convergence issue?

Both convergence amplifiers should have been replaced at the same time. If you can get your hands on a service maual, replace both of them, and go through the convergence alignment in the manual.

Picture color alignment off, red blue halos

Its more than likely the two convergence ICs STK392-560 and the 12 4.7 ohm 1/2 watt resistors that need replacing. Thats a common issue in all rear projections. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link with free instalation instructions with pictures. for 1200 you could replace every board inside your TV almost twice. I wouldnt recommend using sears to fix your set. Drop the people at this link a email and state your problem and model number.

Picture warped..Can't fix convergence because crosshairs are also warped!!

I have a solution, same thing happened to me, have the tv in shop still. my guy said he has replaced the ssb (?cuircut board) three times. all three times the tv worked great for a day or two then the same thing would happen again. finally he figured out it was some small part, sorry cant remember what it is call. He contacted philips for support or to order the part and was informed they had to discontinue making the part because it was defective and would mess up the ssb everytime. However, even though philips was aware the part was defective and would tear up the ssb they claim no responsiblilty and no replacement part is available. If anyone knows what can be done to repair this issue or has had this problem themselves please post.
