Makes a noise and clothes wrap around agitator

I have a kitchenaid kaws850l02 top loading washer. It is making what can only be described ad a grinding noise and my clothes are wrapping around the agitator. It seems like it might be be the top section of the agitator but I am not positive. It just started doing this. It also overflowed once but I beleive it was only the reset on the water fill was stuck, because it only did it that once.

Hello. I believe the two problems are related. Sounds like your agitator is not assembled correctly. It should not have things getting stuck constantly and it should definitely NOT be so easy to remove. Feel around the bottom edge of your agitator. If there is more than a 1/8 - 1/4 inch gap (roughly), it's not being snapped all the way down. Take a towel and fold it to where it is nice and fluffy. Lay it over the top of the cone part of your agitator. Get a hammer and hammer over the towel (as not to damage the agitator top). A rubber mallet could also be used. Tap firmly until you hear a click or until the gap between the agitator and wash tub reach 1/4 -1/8 of an inch. This should solve the problem.

Hello,

If your washer is indeed a WFL2066, than the not spinning is directly related to the unit not draining.

These machines by design cannot spin if the drain is inadequate.

Here is the first step in resolving the problem, you need to access the drain pump/filter to clean it.
To reach the filter and clean it
1) Open the small square plastic door at the right bottom of the washer.

2) Via the small hose drain any access water from the pump...this is where a wet/dry shop-vac comes in handy, or a shallow pan with a few towels works as well.
3) Then turn the pump insert/button trap counter clock-wise and pull out. Clean the trap out thoroughly running it under hot water and mild soap or your washer detergent and inspect inside the pump for any other foreign objects/obstructions.
4) Re-install the lint trap insuring it is good and snug/tight.

before closing up the small access door by run a short rinse spin cycle to check for leaks

But on the cloth wrap around the agitator first of all put of all form of power connected to the washer (SAFETY FIRST)then carefully open the door then remove the cloth one after the other carefully

Thank you and thanks for using fixya.

Can you describe the problem more better? Does it still agitate properly? Have you checked the balance of the tub? I believe you have a bent agitator shaft.

My Maytag Ensignia washer is not spinning well. It bangs side to side with even the smallest loads. It seems like something is loose. Is this something I can fix myself or do I need a repair mans help....

Try leveling the washer... If the washer is level, then don't wrap the clothes around the agitator...drop the clothes straight in, on top of each other evenly around the agitator. The Ensignia washer has a Dual action agitator... That means the clothes roll over them selves, instead of moving side to side, as with a traditional agitator. wrapping the clothes around the agitator will cause the load to be un balanced and then cause the "banging" noise... this should take care of the problem...

Agitator making clicking noise when washing clothes; clothes wrapping around agitator

Hi,
If this a whirlpool brand washer, there are sone parts bad in the agitator it's self. These parts are called dogs and they make the agitator rachet so that the top half only goes one direction. Does this sound like what you are experiencing? If so, let me know and I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

some fabrics are known to do that you have on wrong cycle setting there should be a setting for delicates and clothing and blankets and things when loaded to close to agitator will attract each other together so its wise when loading machine load in a circle leveled out till desired fullness away from agitator they shouldnt attract as much
