I go to print on a DVD. Open the tray and slide the DVD holder in and the printers says " cannot print because the CD/DVD tray is open. Close the tray". When I close the tray it prints my projet on paper. I have printed on DVD's before and it worked great. I reinstalled the software with no luck

Get an error message on my All in One printer saying the cd tray is open and that it can't print to paper. The tray is closed. I have reinstalled the software, opened and closed the tray and the printer as well as turned off the power. I can print dvds very well. I just can't print to paper. Thanks.

My C5280 printer is 6 months old in June 2008, suddenly now it will not print to printable CD/DVDs. Keeps telling me the CD/DVD tray is open.

Occasionally it'll pull the DVD holder within the printer, a few movements in and out then tell me I have a paper jam (No paper in it at this stage).

    All other functions working OK

Tried reloading the roxio software but the error message is appearing on the HP's display LCD before I even attempt to print.

I can not print to CDs/DVDs using an HP C5280 All-in-One Printer. I get an error message "Can not print because CD/DVD Tray is open". Once I close the tray it prints on a 8.5"x11" sheet of paper instead of the CD. I want to print directly onto the CD. I tried the suggestion about changing the option from HP Tattoo to Printable CD/DVD Standard, uninstalled and reinstalled the HP and Roxio software and I still can not print.

I finally figured it out. The default DISC LABEL got set to HP TATTO. It should be PRINTABLE CD/DVD STANDARD. The HP Tatto uses the photo paper tray so the printer wants you to close the DVD tray

I am having this exact same issue with my C5250 All in One. Where do I find the "tattoo" setting?

This is a bug in the C5280 software.

The one thing that worked for me was purchasing and downloading SureThing Disc Labeler at Apparently it accesses the printer directly, bypassing the faulty driver.

Yes, it costs $30, but it was worth it to me to end hours of frustration. Also, you can download a 15-day trial version for free.

Xp-800 cd/dvd printing

The tray is for the DVD or CD itself, not for a label. The printer prints directly on the CD or DVD, you must use ink jet compatible blank disks, the white ones with no printing. You don't need a tray to print the label.

Dvd/cd tray same problem as others posted here

My experience (with the R280) MAY have some relevance. It turns out that, should you turn the printer power on WHILE the output tray is in the upper (DVD/CD) position, you get an undocumented pattern of error lights, error message, and no ability to print. The cure (for the R280) is: just move the tray to the lower position and leave it there long enough for the printer to complete its power-up cycle and initialization, after which the green POWER light will be solidly on. Then you can shift the tray to the upper position for DVDs, or go ahead and print on paper where it is. Epson "technical" "support" people all deny that this is the way it works, and they want me to return the printer for replacement. I have confirmed the behavior on TWO different R280s. They also deny that their CD-Label software scatters "CDLabel.alb" files whenever you load a photograph as background, but that's another issue, and fortunately non-fatal.

CD/DVD Tray open; Close Tray to print

This solution is taken from the HP website.

Follow these steps to print on a CD or DVD.
  1. Make sure that the CD/DVD tray is completely closed (completely inserted into the product).
NOTE: Make sure that the side of the tray that holds the CD/DVD is inserted into the printer first.
  2. In HP Photosmart Essential, click the Print tab.
  3. Click Printer Settings and then click Advanced to open the printer properties.
  4. In the properties, click the Features tab.
  5. In Paper Type , select Printable CD 120mm .
  6. In Source , select the CD/DVD tray .
  7. Save the settings and then again attempt to print on the CD or DVD.

Epson 220 not printing cd labels anymore

Clean the white areas on the tray with a light solvent cleaner like windolene/windex liquid. Also try giving the tray a helping hand as it is started to be fed into the printer

Canon mp830.can't print from cd cassette i get an error: close print door first

Make sure the driver has the correct media selected. You may have to select a "tray" to print from. This may be done using a button on the control panel, using the menu and LCD display, or by setting the software driver preferences.

If that does not solve the problem try deleting and reinstalling the driver. Don't forget to check the owners manual. It may have information on this problem

Mac OS 10.5 Leopard

As per someone elses post here:
# Select Print from the File menu.

If you see the message The Epson Printer Driver dealing with CD printing is not installed, click OK.

# Click Tray, select Tray 2, then click OK.

Note: If Tray 2 is not selected, the CD design will print in the wrong position.

# Click Manual Print.

# Make sure Epson Stylus Photo R(your model) is selected.

# Under Paper, select the following settings:

* Source: Manual

* Size: A4

# Click Properties.

# Select CD/DVD or CD/DVD Premium Surface for the Media Type setting.

# Click OK, then click OK again to print.

Canon MP810-CD-R Tray loading-printing problem

I read on another site that you must wait until prompted on the screen to put the tray into position. Opening the inner door and loading the tray before asked to and then pressing OK was the key to fixing the problem on the MP830.
It's the simple things that always get you into trouble, I guess.

I have tried to print cd labels on two separate HP C5280 printers, with no luck. Printer keeps giving me an error message, cd/dvd tray is open. Printer just doesn't recognize the cd holder. I have uninstalled and installed the HP driver, spoke to the tech support, followed their instructions on chat, phone and you-tube, wasted so many labels, papers and the ink, complained to HP, all waste of time, money and energy. Please don't buy this product.
