Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Model GHW9200LW - FH error code - unit is over flilling with water. Them FH error code occurs. ( If you press cancel twice the door unlocks and the water pressure is enough to pop the door open!) A couple of weeks back I fixed a "no drain" problem by blowing in the pressure switch tube and clearing out a plug. This time I went to the "pressure tube connector" at the tub and thought for sure I found the problem with the amount o sludge I cleaned out of the connector. Still over filling though.

Where does the manual require replacement of the pressure switch?
I have a multi meter but not that experienced with it. Do I check all these pairs with the switch and wire plugged together or just the terminals on the switch?

HI and thank you for accepting my offer. Ok, let's cover the basics of this particular issue.

FH_ This will occur when No water is detected entering the machine or The pressure switch trip not detected.

If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine, the valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.
OR
If the control has turned the water valves on, and after 8 minutes, the flow sensor has detected 10.5 gallons of water passing through it, but has not detected the pressure switch trip, the valves will be turned off, and the error code will flash.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.

Possible Causes / Procedure

• If there is no water in the unit:
- Make sure that both valves at the water source(s) are turned on all the way.
- Check for plugged or kinked inlet hoses or plugged screens in the inlet valves.
- Verify inlet valve operation.

• If there is water in the unit:
- Verify drain pump operation.
- Verify that the pressure switch hose is in good condition and properly connected to tub
and pressure switch.

1. Verify there is not a siphon problem.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Verify wire harness connections to inlet valves, pressure switch, drain pump, flow meter,
and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check all hoses for possible leaks.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
6. Verify pressure switch operation.
7. Verify flow meter operation by blowing air through the part and measuring the resistance.
8. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic test or any cycle.

Replace failed component.(Which will be the CCU, if the pressure switch and hose are operational. Follow the procedure below to confirm optimal pressure switch functions)

Pressure Swicth Testing procedure:

The water level switch(aka pressure switch), is responsible for regulating the water fill level in this situation. It does this through a plastic tube which runs from the switch in the control console down to the side of the outer tub, near the bottom . The tube is filled with air. As water enters the tub it also enters the tube. As water climbs inside the tube, it pushes on the air trapped inside and increases the air pressure. When the air pressure reaches a certain level, it triggers the switch.

I would advise to Inspect the air tube for kinks, breaks or damage. The tube should also be free of water. The tubing should be securely connected to the bottom of the outer tub and to the bottom of the water level switch. If there is water present, the switch must be replaced.

The water level switch has three connectors. Label and disconnect the wires from the switch. Test the switch for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. It will be necessary to test each of the three possible pairs. replace the switch if it fails the continuity test.

Click here to be directed to the service/repair manual for your unit. This manual will guide you through all the dissembling and testing procedures that are laid out above in the possible causes list. This manual is a whirlpool universal duet manual that will cover your entire unit. This FH code will always require the user or tech to replace the water level switch(pressure switch), but to be safe, i would advise to cover all basisi stated above before replacing the pressure switch(aKa water level switch).

The actual manual will not recommend to replace a signal component or device. The manual will suggest to test all related components to isolate the culprit. With that said; I have repaired duets for some time now in my own private practice. During this time, it has always been the fault of water backing into the switch, thus, compromising the integrity of the switch circuit. The switch can also fail, circuit wise, also. When testing this type of component, you will need to remove all electronic connectors and test the switch terminal only. The device cannot be connected to any other corresponding components during the electrical circuit test with your multimeter. Follow the procedure as stated to test properly.

Additionally; There is a diagnostic test that can be initiated as stated in the manual i have provided for you. It would be wise to run that test to isolate any other problem areas that may be contributing to this disruption. The Pressure switch testing points can be accessed without locally testing the actual switch. This may be the better option in this case. On page 5-2, there will be a pressure switch testing procedure and resistance chart. First you will need to disconnect the washer from the wall outlet. In addition, disconnect the wiring harness connector from the Central Control Unit before making any continuity tests. Your pressure switch can be checked at various water levels. Disconnect the pressure switch connector from the control box(CCU) and test all 6 pins at the CCU for proper resistance as illustrated on the chart on page 5-2. You should read 0 OHMS. If the levels are above or below 0, replace the switch. Remember; Only test the connector pins and not the CCU pins. Make sure that the pressure switch connector is plugged top the pressure switch during the test. Use the probes on your multimeter to touch each pin as directed on the Test Point chart on page 5-2.

Diagnostic Test procedure can be found on page 6-8. Follow carefully to confirm optimal performance and program continuity.

I have code fh

Hey Lukec,

The FH error code on your Kenmore Elite washer indicats that there is a problem with in-coming water flow. When the water feeding the washer is less than what it should be, the FH code will trigger and the washer will shut down.

You can check a couple of common problems that can manifest this error code after resetting the machine. Steps for reset and diagnostics can be found below.

  1. Using the "Pause/Cancel" button on the washer control panel (this button will be below the digital time clock, to the lower right of the wash cycle selector) by pressing the "Pause/Cancel" button twice to cancel the wash cycle.
  2. Next, unplug the washer from the wall socket (this will reset the error code).
  3. Several things you can do to troubleshoot the follow issue are these:

Check for kinks in the water supply hose.

Turn off the water supply (hot and cold) and remove the hoses from the back of the washer. Check the port screens at the hose connections for sediment buildup and clean as necessary.
  4. Reconnect the water supply hoses to the washer and turn on the water supply.
  5. Plug the washer cord back into the wall outlet.Select the wash cycle and press the "Start" button.
If the error code returns, you will likely have internal water flow issues due to the pump or other internal problems which may require a service technician.

Hope this helps.

    Hi

Error code FH appears when No water is detected entering machine or Pressure switch trip is not detected. If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine and then valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display. If there is no water entering the unit then make sure that the inlet valves are working fine. You may need to check the continuity at the inlet valves. If the valves are fine then check whether inlet water hoses as they might be plugged. Also check for inlet water screen at the valve. However, if the water is entering into the washer then the Drain pump might not be working. Also inspect the Pressure Switch hose whether it is in good condition and properly connected to Tub and Pressure switch. Also check hoses for leak and inspect the flow meter. Hope this helps...

    Hello & Welcome to FixYa

FH error is displayed when the control detects no water entering the machine. To clear this error press and hold the PAUSE/CANCEL button twice. You can then check if the water inlet valve is fine and not clogged with foreign particles, try to clean it. If the water inlet valve appears to be fine then check if the pressure switch hose is properly connected to the pressure switch & tub. Please get back to me if you have any questions.

When washer starts to wash it beeps and flashes the letters FH.

    Hi

Error FH means that a water inlet problem has occurred. If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine and then valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display. If the machine is not filling then check whether both valves at water source are turned ON and inlet hose are not plugged. Kenmore Elite HE3 Error FH I forgot to turn the water hoses on when I started a load. The FH error sounded at 33 minutes of a 45 minute cycle. I can't reset the machine now. It is stuck. It is unplugged....

according to kenmore, you should press the "pause/cancel" button twice and it should release it.  it may also have locked up the CCU, central control module and might need to be replaced.

FH error because I had the water turned off

The FH code means that the unit isn't detecting water at the flow meter. The flow meter sits just in front of the inlet valve and is attached via a hose, and off to the left the CCU. Check the wiring from the flow meter to the control unit and make sure all connections are tight. Also, press and hold the "end of cycle" button for a minimum of three seconds. Hope this helped and best wishes.
