Question about Philips 43P8341 43" Rear Projection Television

Red will not converge even after I replaced both IC's. Please Help ASAP!

Hi everybody. My Phillips rear projection tv, green and blue are fine, red is slanted on the sides. I can't converge the red manually. The factory reset won't do. I tried to do this after I replaced both IC's stk392-120, The grid aligns left & right, but not up or down and on the sides the crosses have a kind of slanting. any idea how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it.

I have a phillips in my office like this. There are a few things to check. Check the resistors around the red convergence ics it is probably open resistor or resistor fuse take your time and check all the resistors. In rear cases it could be the surface mount ics on bottom of convergence board i hope that is not the case.

What is convergence IC problem

Convergence has to do with how different colors are displayed on a screen or monitor - typically the rear projection and some other types. When colors are overlapping to create unexpected combinations, or leave gaps between areas where overlapping is expected that results in a shifted red, green or blue image strip or edge - that is an indication of a convergence issue. They can look like this in severe cases:

Colors will drift, so manufacturers often include a utility to help you nudge the colors back in the right place. Most times this utility is buried in the Set Up Menu and when activated, produces a screen like this:

You will need to adjust the red, green and blue colors for each cross so that only a white cross is displayed. Keep red, green and blue fringing to a minimum. When you're done, the screen should look black and white, symmetrical and straight - like this:

Problems arise when you are no longer able to coax the utility to give you these crisp, B&W results with no red, blue or green ghosting. This is often due to a failing convergence integrated circuit ("Convergence IC"). Many times, replacing it will solve the problem, but other times it can be the result of failing components either ahead or after this IC. If you're attempting to replace this IC, please make sure the TV or monitor has been *unplugged* for 24 hours or more to allow the dangerously high voltages to dissipate.

Hello:
The problem you are having is your blue convergence IC has failed, It must be replaced if you can solder and unsolder you can do this yourself, the parts are large black IC's mounted on large metal Heatsinks.
Note: If the blue convergence Ic has failed then it would be wise to also replace the IC that controls the Red and Green, because if may be not long before it fails also. There are two Ic's that control the convergence one for Blue and one for Red and Green together. The part number for the Ic's are STK-392-110, replace with STK-392-120 for longer life.

Red and green double vision

This is a convergence problem that is either poor solder connections on the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder and are comfortable working inside the set where there are ptentially dangerous high voltages present even when unplugged, you can fix this yourself.

Please let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll supply additional details and instructions.

Convergence

If the red isnt responding via the remote you will need to replace the STK392-110 Ics as the service menu adjustment will not correct it 100% due to the IC being faulty and the red and half the green is controlled by one IC and the blue and other half of green is controlled by the second IC so without changing both ICs the set will progressively get worse. Both ICs are stk392-110. You can get replacements at the following link along with instalation instructions

My phillips model 60pp920217f has a horrible picture...no green to the color

The green CRT coolant has congealed thats whats giving you the green halos. Change the coolant in the green and blue and your set will be fine. red is never affected so the red coolant should be fine.

Usually there are 2 convergence IC's, labeled STK392-110. Each IC has 3 channes. Each color needs to be corrected 2 ways, vertically and horizontally, so 6 channels are needed. usually one IC does red, red and haf of green while the other IC does the other half of green, blue and blue. If the red colors are off, change the IC closest to the red jack. If the blue is off, change the IC closest to the blue jack. If the green is out, you have a 50/50 shot at replacing the correct IC. It is recommended to use the STK392-150 when replacing the IC's so it might not be a bad idea to go ahead and replace both with the newer numbers.
