It worked for about a year before, and there is no problem with the batteries. I am certain that the batteries are inserted properly, and they are Energizer batteries.

One of the batteries looks like it may have corroded (though I put in new ones and it still didn't turn on). Could the corrosion from the battery have damaged the calculator?

Hi, was it working before you needed to change the batteries, have you put them in the right way round and did you check their was no seal on one side of the batteries.

let me know what you have done and if it was working before.

i cant remember if the batteries go in facing the same way or if one goes in the other way round, let me know what you have done then ill have a look around to check which way the batteries go in.

if you have bought cheap batteries then this could be your problem as ll the cheap ones are good for is cheap watches so bare this in mind.

let me know ok

hi, was the old batteries left in for any length of time if they was then the terminals maybe corroded and could need cleaning, has is been anywhere where it could have got damp or knocked about??

  • paul proctor Aug 31, 2010

Hi, thats exactly what i was thinking it may not have damaged the calculator but im thinking you know the battery terminal well if this has got corrosion on it from the battery then this will cause it to not make a good connection with the battery and this is more than likely why it is not working.

your going to either need to take the back off the calculator or get something in so you can scratch away the corrosion from the terminal, the chances are once the terminal is cleaned it will work so try and get something inside to scratch the corrosion off the terminal if you cant get anything in then your going to need to take the back off and give the terminals a good clean.

you will need to clean the top terminal and the bottom and after doing this it should be working.

it may be best if you take the back off then you can actually see the corrosion and clean it off with some sand/glass flatting paper or you could just scratch it off with a screwdriver, the corrosion will cause you to have no connection with the battery plus if the corrosion has spread it may be causing a short so taking the back off would be the best option but if you can get something in to scrape the terminals clean then this should get it working, if not the back will need taking off.

you was just testing me wasnt you by not telling me about the corrosion, lol only joking.

once the corrosion is gone your calculator will be up and running in no time.

also remember when your handling the batteries make sure you dont touch the top and bottom of the battery as this will cause it to drain the battery faster than anything, make sure you dont touch the poss and nega of the battery else it will go flat in your hands.

let me know how you get on try and clean it without taking it apart but the chances are you wont get anything in, you need to scrape the terminals clean so they are shiny again and also make sure the terminals are springy enough to push the battery onto the terminals hard enough as the corrosion will weaken the metal and can cause it to not connect properly.

give the terminals a clean first then give it a try the chances are it will work then.

let me know what happens ok

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Ti 84 plus can't transfer 8C010000

Transferring data and programs to the calculator requires a lot of energy that almost dead batteries cannot provide. Change batteries and try the transfer again using TI Connect. To transfer from a similar calculator the receiving one must be in RCV (receive mode).

My TI-84 calculator isn't working. When I press the "ON" button, sometimes it would respond, but most of the time it doesn't. The screen just remains blank. I've changed my batteries...

try taking out the triple A batteries and leaving the calculator to sit with them out for a minute or so, replace them and check if it's fixed. If that doesn't work you can do the same, but take out the small button back up battery as well. If you're still not having luck you should call ti cares (800-842-2737) they're usually helpful.

TI 84 won't turn on. New batteries installed. TI Connect recognizes device and I installed new OS. Brightness is not the issue. Any suggestions? This is one of student's calculators. Thank you.

Reinstalling the OS fot the TI84Plus

How do I correct the Error Waiting...Please Install Calculator SoftwareNow message on my TI-83 Plus family or TI-84 Plus family calculator?

If an operating system (OS) update fails or is interrupted, the calculator will be in an inoperable state with the message Waiting...Please install calculator software now.The most common cause of a transfer being interrupted is updating theoperating system on a calculator with low batteries. Users will need touse the TI Connectivity cable and the TI Connect software to send theoperating system to the calculator. Make sure to have the latestversion of TI Connect installed on the computer.
In order to install the software please follow these steps:
1. Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the computer and the calculator.
2. Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader
3. Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS.
Ifthe message "Error! Press any key to turn unit off. Then turn unit backon." appears on the graphing calculator, quickly, remove one batteryfrom the calculator and reinstall it while the transfer is taking place.

Hope it helps.
