Tv has bad blue crt (pix tube) said the repairman

A local repair man came in the house & in 5 minutes came to the conculsion it was a bad blue crt (pix tube), i had done looking on the sony parts store and was given a price for the part of $146.. He gave a price of $375 to install (+ the $70 to diagno.), now is his price too high, is the tv worth fixing since he also said the red & green can also go not now but down the road since this is a common problem; can this be an easy fix for anyone, meaning could i try to replace it or just leave it upto a repairman? blue tube is out

Blue tube is very common on this type of tv, His prices are very fair.My concern is the other tubes i usually could tell if the other tubes looked ok. If he says they seem fine. And you like this tv it is worth fixing. Make sure if you do say yes you get a 1 year warr on tube and a warr on labor,

Im not sure if you got price with yoke assy to or just tube. It is very hard to put yoke in tube and have it adjust properly. make sure when you talk to him it
is a new tube and yoke assy , If not dont fix.

thanks doctor video ladingedgeelectronics.

This sounds like a bad blue CRT (cathode ray tube) The repair on this is a major job. Beyond the tube replacement it would then require some convergence alignment and possibly some setup on the other related service adj. such as geometry. You may want to get an estimate from a reputable local repair company.

Cathode ray tubes (crt) for a Sony Rear Projection TV Model# KP-65WV600.

We have a problem with the blue as well. Sometimes it is good, then it fades to green. Then it went out and back on again. Repair man said it is a bad HT Block and would cost $350 to remedy.

Sony big screen tv not playing picture after 5 minutes or so

You have a bad picture tube, or perhaps a picture tube drive problem.. To see what is bad, remove the front speaker grill under the screen in the front. Remove the screws that hold on the board that covers the front. Insidfe this set, WITH THE TV SET UNPLUGGED< Locate which one of the tubes is the blue one. Gently pull off the board from the end of the picture tube and swap it with the green tube right next to it. The green tube is always the middle tube. If the blue comes up again, then the blue tube is bad and you will most likely be better off to buy a new TV set. If the green comes up as the bright one, swap back the boards, call a tech and tell them there is a CRT driver board , or an RGB drive problem. This should not cost you an arm and a leg to get repaired. Good Luck, and let us know how you make out with the repair of this TV set.

Isolate filament voltage from CRT,i.e. unplug Crt socket from pix tube.Measure filament voltage on CRT PCB.If present, suspect bad pix tube.If missing, solder any/all connects in filament circuit, meaning CRT board first then main PCB.

Tv picture blinks off and on

The on and off conditions is repairable and is not the tube, you should have it check out for loose conections and try not to use it or it will go bad for good and the repair will become expensive,Check power supply, horizontal driver transformer and crt board,If you are not familiar with tv service be safe and call for help.

Tv has bad blue crt (pix tube) said the repairman

If you have a service manual or the experience to do this then I guess you can repair it. You do need a cross hatch generator to do an alighnment and sometimes an ocilliscope to adjust horizontal alighnments as per the service manual. Your paying for what the man took years to learn as repairing TV sets is not an overnight thing. As to the worth its up to you, do you wantt to invest this much money in a set that cost you a bundle?? How old is it? will answer your Question as they usually "made" to go for at least 5 to 7 years. After that its a crap shoot and if its older I wouldnt invest a dime in it. Unless you know how to repair it I would say buy a new one as the other tubes may go out a week from now or it could be 3 years from now as we TV techs are not fortune tellers. Good Luck
