I don't have F10 on my mini laptop. I do have an external hard drive and am trying to insert the disk but it keeps wanting to know the location of the xp files???? I am so confused.

It's usually Control & F11 (which works on my sons 10inch dell) but whether there is a restore partition may depend on your hard drive size. If you received install/recovery disks, you may have little choice but to get hold of an external CD Drive.

    Hi.

It looks like you need to restore from CD.
To do this you need either a dell restore cd, or Microsoft windows cd in your cd drive when you start the machine. If your machine has no cd drive, you need to get hold of an external CD Drive and start up with the restore/windows in it. It will simply the be a matter of following the windows prompts.

How do i restore factory settings on my dell inspiron mini 1018

This is quite easy to do, when your turn on your computer you need to hit a hotkey over and over again. The hotkey is different for each type of laptop but the common ones are f11, f1, f2, alt+0 and f12.
Once you reach the recovery screen you just need to follow the on screen prompts and you're all set
WARNING: Doing this will mean that you will lose all your personal data and installed programs that are on the computer.

How do i restore to factory settings on windows 7 starter on a dell inspiron mini?

Turn Off the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10 key,ie: Alt+F10, it will open the recovery console ,select full factory restore and follow on screen instruction. (Note:this will erase all datas on the computer)
or
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

Hope this helps

I want to restore my dell inspiron mini but I dont have an external disk drive. f11 f8 f10 during boot up does not work. Help me?

Run PC Restore from the instructions below
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3705089-restore_dell_system_original
If that fails, then you will need an External USB Optical drive to reload windows from using your Dell reinstall media that came with the system.

I have a dell inspiron mini and want to know how to reset back to factory setting. like when i got it from the shop

To restore the factory setting press Ctrl + F11

If you deleted or formatted the D:\Recovery partition you can not restore.

it is gone for ever , there is no way to replace it

you have to reinstall windows with the CD

Good Luck

Put recovery disk in the CD drive. On reboot, hold down F12 key. You should get a choice of drives to boot from. Make sure the first two are in the correct order:

1. CD-ROM (optical drive)
2. HDD (hard drive)

then press F10 to save and exit.

Now the laptop should boot correctly from the recovery disk.
