Exact same problem. E4, sent uniden an email thru their website though I doubt Ill hear any response. Very disappointed as the 9485 was working great until all of a sudden E4 showed up.
SOURCE: water damage
Ones has to take the phone apart, remove the battery and all parts that are removeable.

With the phone in standby, press and hold [dnd] on the base. You will hear a confirmation tone and the [dnd] LED will go out.

I found this elsewhere:
I've fixed this by taking the phone apart, finding where the pressure pads are under the button. I glued a small piece of aluminum foil on to where the pressure pad is. Aluminum foil is a good electrical conductor. It's a delicate process. I don't recommend doing this unless you know what you're doing. But if your handset is already dead/useless, give it a try. Put everything back together and the buttons work again.
