When vaccuming the pool the dirty water is comming back in the pool through the filter. I backwashed till clear. At first the water is clear but after several swipes with the vaccuum the water starts coming in dirty-yellow again. Do I need more sand in the filter?

If the debris your are trying to vacuum up is more fine than the sand can catch (specifically with algae or dead algae), it will blow right through the filter. there is a setting on your filter called either drain or waste. when using this setting the water completely bypasses the sand and comes straight out the back wash outlet. this is a rather tedious task as you lose alot of water, but it is the only way to remove this type of particulate. make sure the pool is overfilled when you begin. good luck!

Why is dirty water coming into pool after I vaccum to waste? Or If I change valve to any position then back to filter? Also dirty water coming out of rinse position and clean coming out of backwash.

if dirty water is coming back to pool after vaccume to waste/dump then id say the packing seal on your multiport valve is broken/ damaged the multiport valve is the thing with the handle on it that you move to adjust filter/water direction , most times these are available in a cartridge replacement from your local pool supply vendor and change easy with only a screwdriver and maybe a strap wrench (don't use metal wrenches on plastic it will crack it )

No pressure on gauge on filter pump

The same thing happened to me. So frustrating! I guess the pump that comes with the intex pool is not strong enough to do this. At least that is what I was told. So I just ended up sending that vaccum back and getting a catfish vaccum. Works great!

Pump is blowing cloudy water back into pool

Cloudy water is the bane of sand filters!. I suggest letting filter run day and night. Do not backwash until the pressure rises 8 - 10 pounds above clean starting pressure. Do not try to vacuum or stir up the sediment. when water clears, vacuum to waste. Keep the hose running while vacuuming. A dirty filter is a better filter (up to a point). At a higher pressure the filter will trap more of the fine particles that are clouding your water.

My sight glass has NO water in it, is this normal? it used to have water in it, the pump works fine as water is circulating. any ideas?

The sight glass is used during the backwash process. When you back wash your pool filter it will fill with dirty water. As you progress the water will become clearer. Once the water is clear your backwash is complete.
There may be some residual water that remains however that is the process.

I have a Hayward S310T filter. It's been running 24/7 for over a month. The water does not appear to be clear, even after floccing. How do I tell if the water is being filtered or if the filter is...

Backwash the filter. If the water coming out of the backwash line is not dirty you need a sand change. If the water is dirty you need to continue let the water filter and back washing once a week. Also make sure the six way is on filter and not recirculate

After I vacuum the pool, backwash it and then turn the filter system back on it blows in a lot of green water back into the pool. What should I do?

1st Green water is algee. Kill the algee in the pool. 2nd when you're finished backwashing the filter. Stop pump and move valve handle to rinse position. Then restart pump. Run in rinse mode until glass is clear. Then stop pump again, and move lever to filter position. When you're backwashing, you're reversing the flow of the water through the filter. When you switch directly back to filter, anything left loose in the filter flows back to the pool. When you select rinse, it reverses the flow back to normal, but keeps the water going to the waste outlet until clear, that way that green puff of water will go out the drain. After you backwash the filter do you have to put in a powder through the skimmer?

If you're using a sand filter you don't use diatomite like you do on a DE filter. You should 1. Turn pump off. 2. Move valve to backwash. 3. Allow to back-flush till water is clear (check sight glass). 4 Turn pump off again. 5 Move valve to rinse 6. Turn pump on till water is clear again.7 Turn pump off, return valve to filter. 8 Turn pump back on again. No power is added to a sand filter. There are some materials to "clean" your sand perhaps twice a year, follow the manufacturer's directions for this.
