Question about Gateway GM5664 Desktop PC

TV tuner/IR cable

I have a brand new Gateway GM5664. I've connected my cable to the tower. I then went into TV setup. The computer found the cable connection, but then said I needed an IR cable. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see any other cable or boxes to connect. What exactly is an IR cable, was it supposed to come with the computer and how can I get the TV connection to work? Thanks!

I have TV reception through a "set-top" box. When I go in to set up the guide for satellite it tells me I need to connect the IR cable. I have it, it came with the computer but can't figure out where to hook it up or what it's for.

This is the external IR blaster and cable for the media card reader. The blaster permits the IR signal received from the remote control through the media card reader to be retransmitted to the selected component in a different location, determined by the length of the cable. The IR blaster cable can be identified by the single black band on the cable connector and the red transmitter on the other end of the cable.
Connect the cable to the jack located on the back of the computer labeled

    Blaster 1

This is the external remote IR receiver and cable for the media card reader. The remote receiver provides for the IR signal sent from the remote control to be received in a location other than the media card reader, determined by the length of the cable. The IR receiver cable can be identified by the three black bands on the cable connector and the black receiver on the other end of the cable.
Connect the cable to the jack located on the back of the computer labeled IR Receiver.
these cables set up the channels. put the other end of these cbles (red & black) on the infrared location on the setbox (front).

I can not get 7.1 HDMI audio output on my Gateway GM5664 running Windows 7.

While DVI and HDMI offer compatible video lines, the DVI connection offers support for two analog audio channels only and cannot transport data packets required for digital audio. You will not get anything beyond 2.1 audio across the dongle.

If you have a HDMI connector on your graphics board and your external hardware, try to use a proper HDMI cable.

Cable connection, when I perform channel search no channels are found??? I've tested the cable connection with other tv with no problems. Is it possible that my cable connection is busted on my RCA...

Did select CABLE in the channel scan setting, it should have AIR/CABLE setting so it can look for the cable signal or off the air (antenna) signal.
If you have the setting correctly setup, then the tuner circuits may have gone out. Some TV has the tuner on the main board, it can be expensive to replace the whole main board assembly.

To get HD channel form your cable TV without using the cable provider HD tuner box but using your TV Clear QAM tuner (your TV has Clear QAM tuner, my TV also has QAM tuner so I do not have to use the cabel box, but my COMCAST does not provide may Clear QAM signals like they use to) to get the unscrambled HD, the cable provider must provide those unscrambled Clear QAMsignals for your TV to pick up the signalS.

What can a tv tuner do, dose it work on a blank

A tv tuner card is a device usually inserted into a computer screen or tower. this device has a "Coaxial Cable" jack in the back so that "Cable" can be hooked into the monitor. Along with this most come with an input selector. this enables you to switch between tv and computer with the push of a button.

My Sources ( I simply Google'd "What does a tv tuner card do") (lol just so i dont answer incorrectly and look like a fool lol.

and btw i have one and love it! it came in my monitor and i didnt think of it much till my TV went out on me. after hooking up the coaxial i havent gone without for a while :)

PS ive got built in speakers in my monitor. when i turn cable on it comes through them. the nice thing is my USB headset stays sending sound from my PC (so if im running a scan ill heard the BEEP at the end and know its done :)

any further clarification required just comment and ill check back

***A TV Tuner Card NEEDS cable to be input into it. You cannot connect to the net or run it off your pc :S

Trying to st up my hdtv,my computer, & Media Center

You need to connect the antenna cable. This is called COAXIAL cable.. On the back of your TV, unscrew the antenna cable and connect it on the back of your TV tuner. Re-scan frequency on the software you are using.
