KitchenAid KSBS25FJWH01 - stopped running - no compressor sound - nothing. Someone said it is probably circuitboard - any start relay switch potential versus circuit board?

Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Model GSI-26 suddenly stopped cooling

It sounds like your compressor is having a hard time starting. Take your model number to an appliance parts store and ask for a compressor start relay. It plugs directly into your compressor and is easily replaced. Remember to unplug the refer first.

KitchenAid Refrigerator KTRC22KKSS00 has stopped FREEZING. The cooling part works but the freezer doesn't, it's just cooling. The relay is klicking at least 3 times within 5 minutes. I don't have a...

just replace the relay and overload/ptc on the compressor, whats happened is the unit is running on both the start windings and run and overheating due to continued high current demand from the start windings, normally it uses these winding just to start the motor from a dead stop, then they open up via the relay and the run windings keep it running at a much lower current

Help! Our KitchenAid side by side stopped cooling today..both freezer and refrig! There is a clicking sound every few minutes...Any ideas?

You will need to pull the refrig out and remove the lower panel . On the compressor , is a square box ( overload/relay ) . This piece has a plug with 2 or 3 wires , going to it . The part number for the part is 8201786 , and is easily replaceable . Compressors going out , is extremely rare .

Kitchenaid Wine Cellar-model # KUWS2246EBLO Power on switch does not turn on cooling compressor. Lite will come on.

Try tapping on the thermostat it is probably sticking.
If it comes on then you will need to replace the thermostat.
Check the start relay on the compressor.
Check the fan motor on the compressor is it running?
Clean lint from underneath on the condensing coil.

if you hear a clicking like the compressor is trying to start, like a clicking on and off this sounds like it could be your start run relay trying to kick your compressor on. if this is bad it will continue to click, and your compressor won't start. unless your mechanically inclined this might be the time to call a service tech. the start run relay switch sits on the compressor behind the fridge.

Refrigerator is not getting cold

pull you refrig away from the wall and look behind the cardboard cover you will see the compressor (big black bowling ball looking thing). we need to determine if it is running you should here a low consistent hum. if the compressor is not running you will probably hear a humming and clicking noise about every 3-5 mins indicating the compressor is trying to start but shutting back down. the culprit is usually the start relay loated on the side of the compressor. this is a plug and play part and very easy to repace yourself get pt#8201786 from whirlpool the good instructions for replacing the part. good luck peyton

Humming noise repeats every few min. evaporator fan runs constantly frig still cold

it sounds like a bad:
  •           start switch (on the side of the compressor) or
  • ·        compressor itself

the start switch clicks  off usually when the compressor is pulling too many amps or the compressor is overheating. if the compressor is not even running then its probably not overheating.
·                                 so either the compressor is pulling too many amps (bad compressor) or the start switch is bad and cannot handle the amps required to start the compressor.
if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

Kitchenaid Superba compressor

The compressor relay is located on the compressor under a cover. Before you go to the compressor I would check for other problems that you can see and hear. If the compressor is running there is nothing wrong with its relay.
1. Check the condenser and make sure it is clear and free of dust.
2. If the compressor is cool or cold check for a bad temperature control.
3. Check the freezer compartment for frost on back wall.

KitchenAid fridg compressor heating up

If the compressor is very hot, it sounds like it may be locked up. Is there an external fan next to it that is not running. this will cause the comp. to overheat, like a dirty coil, which it sounds like you checked out. There is a thermal overload on the compressor. Its underneath the little plastic cover that the wires go to. It protects the compressor from a meltdown. It also has a relay in there. If you have an amp meter you can check this by waiting for it to cool off and clamp it on one of the compressor wires.when it clicks on, If the amps soar over 20 very quickly, and then stops. Its a locked compressor and the thermal overload is cutting it out. If you don't have a volt/amp meter, then try replacing the relay as its pretty cheap. But I would bet on the comp. as long as the fan is running.

Constantly running

If the thermistor sensor for the temperature control is going out that could cause the compressor the think it needs to keep running to cool the unit. The fan near the compressor should run only when the compressor runs. If the fan is running and the compressor isn't then you likely have a compressor start device problem or the overload is tripping from high heat, etc. That would make the compressor run (or try to) every minute or two if not just run continuously. Make sure all the coils under the unit are clean of fuzzy's and hair, etc. by doing a good vac. clean on them also. The compressor can be slightly warm to the touch but shouldn't be so hot that it is hard to keep you r hands on it for long. If it's around 130 degrees F, then it may be the start device problem and is in an overheat condition.
