Hello.

This problem could be related to a assortment of problems including a firmware problem , the software on the computer , the cable and even the usb port on the camera.

The easiest and cheapest solution for you will be to go to a electronics store or department store and but a external usb card reader. This will work with any camera's cards , is faster and easier to use and is generally more convenient than using the USB connection.

Kind Regards

Be dure the batteries are charged or if they are no rechargeable insert new ones...than open the camera and goto the main menu and look for factory restore..or something like that ..and restore all settings to the default ..
when you plug the cable ..be sure the driver is installed and the camera on ...and not in view pics mode...and plugged into computer also ...and it has to work ..
byt he way ,,,it should show a choice on the display ..choose pc mode..

I need to download the software and drivers for my vivicam 5386 where can I find this?

Welcome to Fixya

You dont actually need driver/software for this camera. If you just want to copy the pictures to your computer. For as long as you have a card reader or USB cable windows OS should download it. When you plug USB into your computer a box should pop up and say digital device found. Then your all set.

Thank you for using Fixya!

My Vivitar Vivicam 5399 is refusing to turn on. It has worked perfectly up until a couple of weeks ago, when it started to turn off at random moments, usually soon after I had turned it on. Now, it doesn't...

Have you tried to see if the battery door is completely shut? This is usually the problem with many digital cameras with batteries. Clean the battery door and where the battery touches the metal of the door. Check to see if the door is completely flush with the camera body when you close it. I know for a fact that Vivitar cameras **** the juice out of batteries fairly quickly also. If you have the USB-cord provided with the camera, plug it into your computer and see if that holds a charge to your camera. If all else fails, call up Vivitar for further inquiry, your battery may be dead.
Good luck!

Lost my connection cord to go from the camara to computer. Where I can I buy a new one?

Consider NOT using the USB cord.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

USB cord does not fit

Incredible that a new product is sold without the proper cables!
After you raise Caine with Vivitar, you can buy an adapter kit with several more common device connectors (I'd take the camera along to check before paying) and normally, another standard USB cable to link the adapter to your computer. You'll find other uses for the kit in the future and the cost will be <$10 US and can be bought at Wal-Mart or other stores with a fair offering of accessories.
