I've unplugged the dvd and put it back in.

Turn it on an off for about 10 to 15 sec.

Clean the disc off and insert back in.

I am using an RCA DRC285 HDMI
When I turn it on it says hello, and begins to read the disc. Sometimes the disc will even begin to play, but within the first five minutes (at the longest) the video shuts off, and the dvd player says 'root.' Once this happens nothing will work on the dvd player, including the power button, so I have to unplug it.

How is the DVD connected to the TV?

    • Scart

    • Composite video - yellow phono connector (RCA)

    • Component video - red / green / blue phono connectors (RCA)

    • S-Video - 4 pin mini DIN

Also do you have a secondary audio connection - red / white phono (RCA)?

I just moved, and hooked up the cable,, dvr successfully, and my dvd/video player in. I get a picture with my dvd;s, BUT no sound. two people have told me all the wires are connected properly and i...

To identify where the problem is you will have to do some tests: first just replace the wires/the data cable. Then plug something else in those cables - instead of the player: if the problem remains you will know that the defect is in the tv, if not - it's in the player.
If it's in the tv the first thing you should check is if the sound isn't muted on that AV input - some tv's allow that. Then you must check the connectors themselves: put the volume at maximum and touch the inside part with your hand (you will probably need a small fine screwdriver for that) - if the connectors themselves or the AV switching circuits are ok a very loud white noise will be heard.
If you don't hear it then there is a faulty part and the only way to find it out is to open the tv and test the components using very special equipment - a job for a pro.

Green Picture

The problem sounds like one I had. If so, the cause is as follows.

The Daewoo ouputs synchronisation information on the green channel of the RGB outputs (which are pins in the SCART socket) The Panasonic TV automatically preferentially selects the RGB input in the SCART rather than the composite video signal in the SCART. The video circuits in the Panasonic should ignore the sync on the green channel but instead interpret the sync as green signal information which means the adjustment of the green channel is upset leading to a very green picture.

Possible solutions:
1. From the TV, manually select composite video input, not RGB. This may not be possible - I think the TV automatically goes for the RGB if it is present.
2. Disconnect the wire to pin 16 in the SCART socket. This is the signal from the VCR/DVD to indicate that RGB is available. Disconnecting it means the TV defaults to the composite video. This is what I did.
3. Connect the TV to the VCR/DVD using component or S-VHS leads only.
