Still didn't work...I tried just that and it still says UNKNOWN DEVICE and won't connect....any other ideas? Thank you!

Using Vista...from the threads I've been reading this is a common problem, but a pain in the rear to fix....I'm at a total loss thus far.

Tried and done that. I have re-installed the drivers but logictech does not have drivers because they are included in Vista driver packs. So I downloaded Microsoft mouse drivers and bought a Microsoft Mouse but even that doesn't work. It still says the drivers did not install correctly, problem code 28.

If you are using XP, try updating to service pack 3
I use to link people right to Microsoft for the download, but it seems they no longer support it as the page cannot be displayed and it sends you to thier main page and they won't let you download it anymore.

You may have to work this backwards, check the usb mouse manufacturers web site for vista updates to firmware.

Laptop not recognizing device when plugged into laptop how to fix

The computer is not recognizing the device because the appropriate software or driver is not installed on the device.

Most of the time when you connect a smartphone into a compatible laptop the device drivers or software automatically install, so the laptop may recognize the smartphone.

Here are some possibilities as to why the device is not recognized.

1) The USB port is bad.
2) The USB port is not activated
3) One of the devices does not support the other

Here are a few possible troubleshooting solutions:

1) Go to the smartphone manufactures website and download and install the updated device driver and software then plug in the device to see if it is recognized.
2) (if Windows OS) Go to the Device Manager to see if the device is showing up when it's plugged in. If you see the device in device manager right click the device and choose to update the driver.
3) (if Windows OS) Additionally, in device manager you can check your device's USB ports to see if there is an issue with the ports that may be resulting in the smartphone not being recognized. You can choose to re-enable the USB ports or update the software for the USB ports.

Hopes that helps resolve your issues.

Hello, Just now my Asus notebook n80v series laptop has stopped recognizing my usb mouse. This mouse has worked fine for months, and even my older mouse (which worked without trouble on this laptop for...

If other USB devices are woking fine, it means that the USB ports on the system are OK. The issue could be with the mouse. So, I suggest that you should check the mouse by connecting it on some other system. Also, try another mouse with your laptop and see if it works.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Good Luck!
Appreciate generously, if the solution could have been of any help!

I just bought a new mouse for my laptop. It is a Targus Kaleidoscope Optical Mouse. For my HP Pavilion dv2700, I plugged it in and it will not work,it did install itself several times.Everytime I plugged...

First thing you need to do is to know that the USB ports of your laptop is really working. Insert another usb devices or storage such a flash disk. If the flash disk being inserted is not recognized by the system then the usb port you had inserted is malfunctioning or it is defective. But if the other usb devices like the flash disk is working then your new bought mouse is defective. Try to plug the usb mouse to the other ports available in your laptop.

USB optical wheel mouse not detected by XP

Hi, You can try to: Right click on "My Computer", click on Properties, click on the Hardware tab, click on the Device Manager Button, expand your Mice and other pointing devices. verify that you 2 entries. One is the Sony builtin (Alps in my Vaio) and a HID-compliant mouse. The latter is your external optical wheel mouse. Make sure it does not have any red or yellow mark. Double click on the HID and verify that the next window says "This device is working properly." If not follow on screen instructions to enable or activate. Hope this be of some help. Good luck and pls post again how things turn up or if you need further information. Kind regards.
