Is it a HP ink cartridge (new) or is it a refill. I had the same problem but with a Tesco brand cart, sometimes it worked some times it didn't. Also had same problem with a refill with the refill I just took it back to the shop and swapped it till worked okay
the most important is to remove all the air from the cartridge that has left inside durring refilling that is why professionals are using special machines that refill in 0 air πρεσυρε using vaccum pump
you can check here a video on how to refill with out any special equipment
I also started having problems with my HP 870Cse when I began using refilled cartridges and had ink leakage (cartridge contacts corrupted). Check for this problem. If so, remove cartridges and gently clean the spillage. Then try using HP brand cartridges and see if this doesn't remedy the problem.
make sure both carts are ok usally there is black and colour, sometimes i've seen the spring where cartridge goes break loose, not ecomical to repair, cheaper to replace, modern world, 5 - 10 years ago we would fix but now labour is too high and replacement are too cheap. you could try a little metho and clean contacts on cart and machine
This happens when the connections on the cartridge get old. Especially when you refill or buy non HP Cartridges, try buying brand new hp cartridges and you might be able to get a couple refill out of them before this happens again.
