I think that the seal is the problem but when getting pricing info for the parts to fix it, I got quoted $160! I can buy a new (used) washer for less than that....and save the trouble of pulling the broken one all apart. Thanks for your reply!

Go to this page and you will find the parts and tools you need along with instructions on how to replace the seal. If you repair it yourself the repair will cost approximately $120.

it could be coming from different sources. Most likely is the hose. You might need to replace hoses that bring water to the machine, but first check that they are not loose or have cracks that could cause these leaks to occur.

I have Maytag LS7800 stackables and am happy with the capacity. I am purchasing side by side machines. What is the capacity of the LS7800?

The washer is leaking. Whenever it starts filling water. I checked the hoses they are all fine. It seems to me it's leaking from behind the drum where the water comes in. I couldn't see behind the drum, should I and can I take the top off and see if there is a clip on those hoses coming in

Water leak from bottom

then you may be leaking from the water pump. maybe is worn out, only way to find it is to remove the cabinet an do a load test an see if it comes from there, if the hoses are fine then check the pump.

My daughters maytag has water leaking from the bottom.

Check the easy stuff first, fill hoses tight?- drain hose cracked?
Failing those checks, cut a piece of cardboard slightly smaller than the size of your washer. Slip the cardboard under the washer and run a short load. Look carefully at the water mark on the cardboard. The mark on the cardboard the water leak will leave, will help you tell from which side or front to back the leak is common from. This will help point you in the correct direction to look for the trouble maker.

Maytag neptune mah5500bww leaking water

Here is the solution I found that worked for me, there is a small drain hole at the bottom of the boot that is connected to a drain hose. Remove the hose and clean out to make sure that it has not become plagged. replace hose and reattach boot. Mine stoped leaking imediately.

You may want to check the seal at the bottom of the agitator, there is a o-ring that keeps the water in the drum from leaking through the agitator as it spins. This is a cheap seal and will wear over a period of time from exposure to bleach and detergent. You need to take the agitator apart and remove it from the drum and you should see this seal at the base of the agitator were it meets the drum.

Replace the seal and reassemble, take the metal casing off the washer and fill the drum with a little water, wait, and see if the water is leaking under the drum. If no leak, try to reassemble and run the washer. If is still leaks then check http://www.applianceaid.com/genew.html
