Finedrive USB connect problem

I'm having trouble with my Finedrive 350, when I connect it to my USB port nothing happens. I cannot load any music, pictures or maps onto the SD card. It comes with the USA map on it, but I live in Canada. I have the supplied map file for Canada but can't get it on the GPS (which makes it useless to me). On Fine Digital's site it explains of a file I need to download on my computer to fix the problem, but does not offer a link. Any help?

Just an added note, when I connect it to the USB port it charges the GPS's battery. This GPS unit also has an MP3 player and photo album, which you cannot load any music or pics on if the PC does not recognize that a storage device has been plugged in.

I tried with two different wires on two different PC's (home and work). It only charges. When I go into WINDOWS EXPLORER to find the drive it's plugged into ex: F: at home and G: at work there is nothing there.

how do I access my memory card's files/folders? I cannot find anything on the GPS to open folders or access mem card. When plugged into my PC I cannot access my GPS folders at all. Thanks in advance.

is the finedrive SD card compatible with the card reader you mention?

  • Mike Tramer May 12, 2008

this card reader seems to be the easiest solution. I just need to acces the mem card to delete the USA map and add the Canada map. Gateway will not ship to canada, but I found one on ebay (I think). Can you email me a good one to buy off ebay or another store like gateways. mt_mosquito@hotmail.com

Follow these directions and you should get it working in no time

1. Make a folder on your memory card called "Startup"
2. Go into your registry and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Explorer\Shell Folders\Startup
3. Change the value from \windows\startup to \sdmmc\startup. sdmmc is the name of the storage card on the findrive 350

then go to this website -> http://www.esnips.com/doc/f02c6f20-11ac-4183-b1ba-10d7e3aa67d7/Windows

and download the file and it should work

How to down load music on ur finedrive 400 can u plz help me out

Finedrive units use mp3 format music files. If you plug it into your computer and accumulate a collection and then transfer it to the music folder on the Finedrive, it should work. If it doesn't, Finedrives were made my the Navman company and they may be able to supply you with a manual.

My finedrive is not picking up an signal...it says waiting for gps signal and nothing happens.

some of the reasons a GPS cannot find signals..

1) BAUD rate and PORT are incorrect
2) GPS not in clear view of the sky
3) Battery is too low to receive signal.. Recharge using USB or AC charger before trip
4) Siirf chip is damaged from plugging in gps when starting the engine, this will damage the chip beyond repair

driver was never released by fine digital, you can search but its better to use a card reader to load music on to the sd card, be careful not to damage your card and loose map data.

The manual is helpful isn't it?

Your music and pictures need to be installed onto a SD memory card. Take an empty card and copy the MP3 or pictures onto the card. Install the card into the GPS. Use the correct player (for pics or MP3) and see if it detects the music on the memory card.

It seems like it works the same way if you were to put music or photos onto a Palm. It may need a special folder on the card to read the photos or MP3s. I would put it into the GPS first, let the GPS format it, and see if it creates folders for them.
