I have recently bought a 97' Suma Pro boat with a 96' Suzuki 40 HP engine. I want to ensure that I do the proper servicing on the engine before taking it on the water. I am looking for a user's manual on this Suzuki engine. Can you help? Thank you.

You havent stated if its 2t or 4t ,if its a 96 then no doubt its a 2t which if you are aware are not very economical so make sure you carry plenty of spare fuel,Now apart from the obvious with a 2t like the plugs and making sure that the carbs are clean then motor wise their is not a lot else to do ,other than an external oil up and grease iup of the pivots ,now what i used to do with my old mercury 80hp 2t was for every 20 litres of petrol that my tank held was to put half a litre of diesel in,plus the oil this helped to keep it lubricated on the top bearing which runs dry after a while and is prone to seizing ,especialy if you like giving it some speed ,The other thing i do regardless of 2t or 4t is to change the pinion gearbox oil every year ,i drain the bottom gearbox where the prop is and refill using a pump type oil can ,i dont use the special mercury oil as its too expensive i use diferential EP90 oil from a auto factor ,works just as well at fraction of the price .when using the engine always make sure you look back at the water coming out of the engine for cooling and if the jet seems to get weak with time or no water or very little on idle then change the impeller ,and lubricate with that special white grease for water pumps ,even in the sea this special grease doesnt dissolve but it is expensive but again its cheaper from a auto factor .Now their are no electrics to worry about as its a magneto so no points or ignition modules to go wrong .Make sure you drain the carbs when leaving the engine for any length of time as the petrol dries out in the carbs leaving a residue that blocks the jets ,on the bottom of the carbs is a screw to allow this but the small amount of diesel in the petrol will overcome this to an extent for short periods of up to a month .plug gap will be about 25th and happy boating

Suzuki outboard boat motor 250 hp four stroke 2012, good motor?

Excellant! Just hope you're not putting it on a light boat... that thing could take flight if you're not carefull. Suzuki can build motors - others are copying thier racing designs.

I have a Suzuki 4 stroke 40 HP outboard motor that sputters while in full throttle. How can I fix this?

this sounds like the high idle circuit of carberetor has debri in the needle. I would consider cleaning carb and try again. If still continues then this would make me look at fuel pump. These 2 things are where you need to start.

40 Hp Johnson outboard motors stalls out after a few minutes running then takes forever to start again

May likely be one of two problems:

1. Fuel flow: Make sure fuel tank vent is open and not blocked while engine running. Check primer bulb is working and no air leaks along hose anywhere. Check function of fuel pump and ensure fuel is getting to the cylinders.

2. Overheating: Check engine isn't overheating and that water pump is operating properly while engine is running.
