You have to have a licence to repair a sealed sytem in the usa

Posted on May 08, 2008

You only need a license for harmful refridgerant. Most cars and fridges use R134A which can be bought at any auto parts store. Having the right tool to load it might be difficult for an applicance. For cars the tools are cheap and available.

How do i recharge the coolant?

Hi,
Recharging the coolant on a refrigerator is not something that the average person can do...an access valve must be installed, and beside the fact that the charging process is very very tricky, specialized equipment is also needed to do the job correctly...

Can I recharge the refrigerant myself? or do I really need to call a pro?

You need a pro; unlike a car AC, there is no nipple provided for recharging the system, it must be cut open and soldered shut. Probably $100-150 US.

Fridge not getting cold at all - Hotpoint - HTS22GBMBRCC

Good day,
You don't recharge a sealed system on an appliance such as a refrigerator.
First, you find and repair the leaks if any, or search for restrctions internal to the system, and if the compressor is pumping properly, recharge.
This type of work is limited to a highly skilled tech, with the proper equipment and must be on site to analyze.

Need to know normal pressure for 134-a to recharge my refrigerator

Depending upon the way you charge it you could introduce air into the system. The lines need to be bleed before charging to make sure the refrigerant is in the charge lines and not air. Most folks that do not do this for a living make that mistake.

With air in a 134 system problems will abound. The only way to really charge a system is to use a vacuum pump to pull it down then charge to the correct lever in ounces as provided on the label of the refrigerant u purchase
