Unlock Boost Phone for Nextel Service

Boost cell phones will work with on the Nextel network. However, only very basic functions such as making & receiving calls and receiving text messages will be available. These limited abilities do not meet the needs of many cell phone subscribers.

To unlock available features, you need to have computer cables to attach your phone to computer. Also required are your codeplug (file type RAR - use this link to get Microsoft help - http://multiplexelectronics.home.att.net/moddinginfo.html ) and an RSS program.

To unlock your phone is fairly complicated and you would need to be an advanced computer user. The program you will need to write will depend on your particular phone model and the features or services you require. For those less technical, there are message boards on the internet (ie: cell phone hacks and MP3Car) where experts volunteer to write the programs to unlock phones. Some people choose pay services where they can pay a one time charge for the services they want unlocked.

What is surprising is that Nextel doesn't do a good job of helping subscribers unlock their Boost phones, since this would allow Nextel to sell additional value added services. Unlocking Boost phones allows the phone to download ring tones, applications such as games, walkie-talkie (Moto Talk) and sending text messages and pictures. Not only are these money making ventures for Nextel, the walkie-talkie feature distinguishes Nextel from the other major wireless companies.

Other features that are disabled can change the look and feel of the phone. These include keypad and screen color, keypad lights, inverted LCD and American dialing (555-555-5555). Also, people unlock services which are typically included with most plans including 3-way calling, voice activation dialing, and speaker phones.

Some people unlock their phone to turn off billing charges such as picture and text messaging, to obtain premium service such as widen, which allows you to surf the internet at faster speeds , or access GPS.

One of the strange twists is even if you unlock your phone for some features; Nextel may not provide the service in all markets. This often happens with trying to use your phone as a computer modem, even if widen is turned on.

Whatever you decide, just be careful. Downloading the wrong program could completely disable your phone or you could get caught by Nextel for stealing services.

Tip

Send an email to you cell phone that comes in as a Text (SMS) message.

If you have someone, or if you decide, that you want someone to be able to email your phone and have it come in as a text message. Or for anyone without email on their phone, the email address of your text message box is:

T-Mobile: phonenumber@tmomail.net
Virgin Mobile: phonenumber@vmobl.com
Cingular: phonenumber@cingularme.com
Sprint: phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
Verizon: phonenumber@vtext.com
Nextel: phonenumber@messaging.nextel.com

where phonenumber = your 10 digit phone number

Give it a try and see for yourself!!

How do I unlock my nextel to work with other

you dont have to do anything at all. Just put your sim card in and go. I580 or any other motorola IDEN phone will only work on IDEN networks like (boost, nextel, mike, telus) It will never work for any other carriers no matter what you do.

I want to unlock my sprint/nextel ic902 phone so my boost mobile simcard will work in it?

I activate phones for Boost Mobile.

I'm sorry to tell you, but an ic902 can never be unlocked to work properly on any other system - to include the Boost system. Here's why. The ic902 is a hybrid phone. That is, it uses two different cellular systems to operate. Specifically, voice calls on the ic902 are placed over the Sprint CDMA network and Push-to-Talk (PTT) calls are transmitted over Nextel's iDEN network.

Boost Mobile calling (both, voice and PTT) uses the iDEN network from Nextel. Thus, the ic902's radio transmitter (which is CDMA) cannot make calls on the Boost ( iDEN ) system.

Moreover, if you plan to use Boost Mobile, I STRONGLY suggest that you NOT purchase a Nextel phone and have it unlocked to use for Boost.

Although Nextel and Boost phones seem the same - they are not. If you look at the model number of Nextel phones most of them end in a zero. (ie., i850, i870 etc.) where Boost Mobile Phones end with the number five. (ie., i855, i875, etc.) This is because the transmitters in the phones are set to different frequencies for different purposes (like for texting.)

If you go to eBay for example, those who sell unlocked Nextel phones to use for Boost (if they're honest) will inform potential buyers in their eBay listings that their unlocked Nextel phone will not (text, for example) on the Boost network. These unlocked Nextel phones will have limitations when used on Boost.

To prevent problems down the road, ALWAYS purchase a Boost phone to use on the Boost network.

Special code for motorola i 580

There is no special code for this issue. The T-Mobile sim card is not compatible with the Nextel phone because they are two different carriers and work off of different networks.

UNLOCK I580

Hi
I don't think you can use the i580 on ATT. That phone is IDEN, and ATT is GSM, different types of networks. Telus, in Canada , uses it too. I got one for my brother in Canada and he's trying to get the unlock code so he can use it to replace his broken one.
I know you can unlock it online for $25, but we bought it unlocked and the seller is working on getting the unlock code for his phone.
Please confirm this by checking- because I would be really surprised if an IDEN phone can work on a GSM network , even if it uses a SIM card.

GSM mode

First of all, what service do you use? I'd assume you are using Nextel, which is iden. For this reason, setting it to gsm doesn't work. iden was apparently the last setting used, so "last active" also works. Motorola, for some unknown reason, decided not to allow Nextel users to text message.

There are two ways around this.
1. One is to send a multimedia message with only text (no pictures, sounds, etc). This should be treated as a text message.
2. The other way is to follow this guide, which should allow you to change the registry on your phone and get rid of the message. Note that the first posters made the guide for telus users, so be sure to use the nextel sms number (found later in the thread, I believe).
