What I did for the DX-E402: go to the router settings (http://192.168.1.1/) and then > advance settings > Forwarding > Virtual servers > Add new >

Service port: 21
IP address: 192.168.1.100
Protocol: TCP
Status: Enabled
Common Service Port : (Left as is)

And then saved. My Cesar FTP and ACFile server work again!

What is the name of the software? Is that an FTP software?
Anyway if you are using DX-E401 Router you can enable DMZ (demilitarized zone) to your PC.

1.access your router configuration page (default ip: 192.168.0.1)
2.go to advanced tab
3.select DMZ
4.select enable then type the ip address of your server pc
5.apply settings

after that have someone try to access the files in your pc.
if the software you installed is ftp software then have them access it by this

ftp://internet_ip

the "internet ip" is the ip address found in the STATUS TAB of your router under the WAN catergory.

If this software you mentioned is using any particular application ports, you will have to open those ports for your server PC.
In that case you will to configure VIRTUAL SERVER. It's the actual term used by dynex. for you to have a general idea how to configure your pc behind your router please go to this link

http://www.dynexproducts.com/skins/skin_1/Topics/Documents/DX-E401_Manual.pdf

Virtual server configuration is in pages 22-23. It has detailed explanation of the terms used.

Hope this helps!

Set up a home office LAN which access internet through USB wireless gadget

The following networking job I have done in this Lab. It is enough for a small office to access or transfer file Printing and access of shared Internet in different type of operating system.

We have recently set up a home office (small laboratory) LAN. All the computers access the internet through a USB wireless (CMDA) dongle. The USB stick is Huawei EC168C and internet service provider is Reliance Infocom (India). But any USB internet dongle can be use to share internet in a LAN in the following way. And you don't need a router for that. In the areas where ISP cannot give wire line internet connection this type of USB wireless sticks are really helpful for home office.

Basic LAN Connection:

Here this lab has 4 PCs. One Windows XP, another Windows Vista starter and two RedHat Linux server systems. Here in this lab I have done the basic LAN connection using cat5 cable & RJ45 connector and an 8 port hub. I have connect the two windows based OS. Using cross cable I have connected two windows system with the hub. Then I put static IP address in Ipv4 of TCP/IP. After that I set workgroup name to join in a workgroup in windows PCs. Then I tried to ping the systems, and it was pinging. Then I have setup a home or small office network in both windows system. That I have enabled the Printer sharing. After that I can share file, data and printer through the system gateway.

Now I have to connect other two Linux PCs in this network. With same cross cable I have joined the both Linux system with the hub. Then to detect the Ethernet device I have put down "DEVICE=eth0" entry in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file. Then I set IP address in Ethernet device in network configuration in graphical mode (or System-config-network in text mode). After doing this job I restart the network service with "service network restart" command. Then I am trying to ping the systems to one another, And It was pinging.

Now Linux system can access with each other and files also shared through SSH, Telnet,FTP using process and command.

Linux Configuration:

I have configured the Linux system in the following way. First I have set the host name in /etc/sysconfig/network file by VI editor. Next I have edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file with "Device=eth0" to detect the Ethernet device. After that I have put the IP add in network configuration file and Restart the network service. To keep the eth0 on permanently I also use the chkconfig command.

After doing this job File sharing can be possible through network file sharing (Nfs). I have install Nfs package & shared the nfs dir by editing exports file. Then I am trying to automount the NFS dir by automounting process. So that I put automounting entry of nfs file in fstab file. After that it's automounted in other system's mount location.

Windows & Linux Networking:

Through basic LAN both OS can only ping each other. To share file or data samba server (a client server in Linux) must be configured in Linux system. So I Install smb rpm package from yum repository. Then I have Configure the samba/smb.conf file. I put the Workgroup name on Workgroup column of samba/smb.conf file. Then I Set the network IP without host to route in network in Host allow column. At last I put down all details of Samba dir, users at the end of the configuration file set the samba password. After that I restart the samba demon to up the samba server. Now files can shared through samba server. In windows I Set the workgroup name pairs with samba server and also set username and password same as samba server. Now I trying to send or access file through samba in both OS and it happened.

USB Net Connect:

Here in this lab workers are use internet from an Usb net connect. So it must be shared in Network. It is too fast so shared internet can be access easily. In Windows XP system I connect the USB netconnect & share it in network. IF all the network setting is ok then all the systems can access shared internet through gateway. Here all users use this shared internet now.

Access of Another System:
VNC Server & Viewer is software through which we can access of another system easily. I just install the software & set the password. Then I run the vnc server. After that I Put the IP add of vncserver from vncviewer of another system and type the password & start access the vnc server system. It can be access form WAN also. I just Run the Vnc server and connect the internet and I got a Wan IP add provided by ISP.

How to access your home PC files remotely

There are a couple of ways of doing this. Here are a couple of my favourites. All of these require you keep your computer on.

1. Opera Unite
If you install the freeware browser Opera, then create an account with them, you can start Opera Unite, an online service for accessing files and services from anywhere. After you have added the File Sharing application from the Unite sidebar, you can configure the application. Choose to add a share location and choose your main hard drive (generally C:). Then, change your password and make sure that you set your Opera Unite account to private and check that File Sharing is password-protected. Then simply navigate to the URL that Opera provides (generally username.operaunite.com), enter your username and password and then you'll have full access to your files. Note that you will need to keep Opera running on your Computer

2. FTP server. *Only recommended for advanced users
By running a FTP server software like FileZilla on your home computer, you can create a far more powerful file sharing experience. Now, first up, you should go to DynDNS.com, sign up for a free account and then create a Dynamic DNS host. Next, download and install the DynDNS Updater and run on your computer. Now, to access the files that you have configured with your FTP server software, simply use your DynDNS hostname that you created in the sign-in process into Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer (or any browser) with the ftp:// prefix instead of http://. However, if your computer is on a home network behind a router, you will need to configure that also. Set up a port forward (generally Port 20,21, and 23) to the computer running the FTP server. The other advantage to this is that by finding out the server's local IP address (open Run, then type cmd, then type ipconfig, and write down the IP address shown) you can also access the files from the server within your network, simplifying the file access process greatly.

3. Orb 2.0
This is one of the slickest and smoothest methods. Simply download and install the Orb desktop client from Orb.com (also create an account and enter your details into the Orb client), then add any folders you want to share. Then, allow some time for it to index your content. Now, from outside your network, log in to Orb.com with the account you created and click on the Applications button at the top of screen. If you want the music, videos, photos or documents you specified in the setup process, choose the appropriate application, or choose File Sharing to access all of your files at once. Simply navigate the folders as if it was your local computer and you will be able to use them flawlessly. You can even access other physical drives like your CD drive online.

4. TeamViewer
This is a brilliant VNC replacement application. Simply create an account, then install the client on your computer. Also, enter your account details into the client (click the button at the bottom right of screen) and write down your 12-digit ID and password. From here, you have several options remotely. I recommend that you should link up your account first. Navigate to login.teamviewer.com and login, then add a client using the ID and password from your computer. Now, whenever you login to your account, you wont have to remember your ID/password. You can install the client on another computer and connect with your account directly or login to teamviewer.com and use the Java-based applet to connect and use your computer as if you were in front of it.

These should work well when accessing your files.

Everything depends on how you have it set up through the web interface of the Xerox. If you're using the SMB protocol for network scanning be sure that the folder you are trying to scan to is shared and that the user that you have set the xerox machine to use has LOCAL read and write access to that folder. Occasionally i've seen a firewall issue, but it's rare. All of this assuming that the OS on the PC your scanning to is running XP,Vista, or Server 2003. If you're running Windows 7 or Server 08, forget about it and switch to a FTP protocol and install Filezilla or add IIS through the add windows components and set up an FTP site. With either SMB or FTP, be certain that the username has read/write/delete access to the folder you are trying to write to (domain username will not do with this model). I hope this helps.

Dynex DX-E401 Router setup

Here is the manual, and it states that to get into the router you use admin as the user name and password is blank. I would suggest that you reset the router. The reset button is on the back next to the power connector. Use a paper clip and push the reset button in for about 30 seconds till the lights flash. Then you should be able to log into the setup page and set it up .

Set up ftp server behind the router

you need to set port forwarding for the correct ports, the default port number is 21. so you need to forward port 21 for 192.168.1.50

then go to www.whatismyip.com

copy your ip and add" :21 " without the " " in to the address so it looks something like this: 85.76.240.1:21

now your friend should be able to login from internet explorer for examble after typeing ftp://yourip:21 or from my computer by typeing ftp://yourip:21 into the address bar.

if you need more assistance let me know. im here to help.
Also if you are intrested we can try remote assistance to solve the problem but I would like some compensation for my time with remote control.

What is the main difference between WinGate and the Prestige 310 ?

# WinGate is a software only solution that needs to be installed in a dedicated Windows 95 PC based server. The total cost and complexity are many times over ATI?s product. The Prestige 310 Internet Access Sharing Router is a plug-n-play internet appliance. # WinGate requires all TCP/IP applications such as Netscape Navigator to be reconfigured to have the dedicated server as a proxy. The Prestige 310 Internet Access Sharing Router does not require users to reconfigure any software at all. # The Prestige 310 Internet Access Sharing Router uses Network Address Translation (NAT) scheme, which supports all TCP/UDP ports. WinGate only supports limited number of ports, such as http(80), ftp(21), telnet(23), and pop3(110). # WinGate works as a proxy, while the Prestige 310 Internet Access Sharing Router works as a gateway. The gateway approach is more efficient than the proxy during the processing of TCP/IP commands. As a result, the Prestige 310 Internet Access Sharing Router achieves 10% to 20% higher performance than that of software solutions such as WinGate. # The Prestige 310 Internet Access Sharing Router uses Solid State Disk technology. There are no moving parts in the product. It is much more reliable than any hard disk based system, such as the one for WinGate.
