On your laptop open the control panel then windows firewall, if you are using windows 7 the first link on left should be allow program or application. You will add an exception rule, name it, specify the port 427 and click ok. Now on to the second part. Open your web browser IE logon to the router, for example linksys is 192.168.1.1 if you don't know what your routers ip is, right click your connection in the tray, click status and advanced and note the IP address of your gateway, this is usually your router or firewall.

Login to the router, find the firewall port forwards tab, specify a name and the port 427 and click save to create the port rule. Now try your setup again.

try installing it with out an internet connection. If you are having internet dont update the product yet.if a firewall pops up and says that it is blocking the installation, just skip or unblock it.

Computer says unable to communicate with printer : if using firewall unblock UDP port 427..I'm not sure how to do this. This problem occurs sporadically..sometimes the printer works, sometimes it doesn't

Most of the times just skipping that message will let you use the printer. That message is something that has to do with the printer rediscovery just incase the printer get's disconnected.
Checking with your anti virus software provider might help.
Regarding that message though. Try skipping that and try printing.
The printer should work.

I tried connecting my wireless printer and it came up with this Your computer is unable to communicate with your printer at 192.168.1.5. This may be caused by firewall software. If you are using...

Open whatever program you're using for virus protection and/or firewall, and turn that OFF temporarily. If that solves the problem, then start looking for port blocking on the firewall software.
You might also try the ADMIN screen on the router - maybe 192.168.1.255. Log in and look to see if a firewall or port blocking feature of the router has been turned on.
You can discover the Router IP by opening a COMMAND PROMPT (black screen, white text), then typing ipconfig /all and "enter". The Gateway address will be displayed along with a lot of other information, including the IP of your PC.

Cannot conect my printer to my wireless network

Don't know why this becomes an issue with these type of HP printers but i think ive worked a way around it...
Heres how you do it: (XP)
Control Panel>Printers and faxes>
Then select "Add printer" and choose the first option (Local printer attached to this computer)
An errormessage will appear saying they were unable to find printer. Click next to find the printer manually...

Now select "Create a new port" and choose standard TCP/IP... Ignore the list of different types of printers, now select "From Disk" and then click next... Once The computer recognizes the printer, it all should be in order...

Hope this could help you...!

I have Windows XP and am trying to install HP Office Jet Pro 8500 Wireless and am getting the message to check UDP Port 427 to see if it is open. How do I do that? Don

Hello my friend,
If the HP device will be used locally you will not need to open any port, because open port mean do the port forwarding which is used only in NAT mode but anyway if they ask if the port UDP 427 is open that means that you need to access to the router web interface which is usually 192.168.1.1 and then under Port forwarding you will need to add a rule with external port: 427, Type: UDP, internal port : 427, internal IP: the ip of your HP device. and then save and reboot. everything should be fine after that.
Best Regards,

HPOfficejet Pro 8500 Wireless - need to open port 427 -Norton 360

hi first of all I would like to inform you that you have one of the best printers of HP now the open port error 427 that you get is generally due to blockage in network or firewall so we need to first check weather the printer is successfully connected to the network or not so press setup on printer go to network and then go to print network config page it will be on view network settings now note the ipaddress on the wireless tab of the page open a internet explorer and then type the ip address in the address bar and hit enter the printer page should open up if it does that means the printer is on network now turn off nortan firewall and turn on windows firewall now click on the add exception tab of windows firewall it vista it will be allow a programs through windows firewall now click on add port and in port name type the ip address of the printer in port number type 427 and then select udp ot tcp according to the error message you get in the installation if its udp select udp if tcp select tcp now in windows firewall click on allow programs through firewall and then in exception tab check all the entries related to hp apply and ok now restart the computer now try to install
if still you get the same error
click next if you have next highlighted and go to the next step and select the third option from the screen that will be contiue installing the printer
complete the installation
if the next is not highlighted then add an exception in nortan as well for guidelines open hp.com and in the search bar type c01633677 and open the document select nortan and see the instruction to add exception
if still problem persists let us know

Can't figure out how to open the UDP port number 427

Since both your printer and your desktop are on the LAN side of your router, the hardware firewall isn't really a concern here. I would check the following:

-Make sure the printer is actually connected to the network. If you are having wireless difficulties, and have a wired ethernet port on the printer, try plugging it in rather than going wireless. (If this fixes the problem, you can then concentrate on it being a wireless connectivity issue rather than a firewall issue.)

-If possible, try printing from a different PC on the network. Does it work with that PC? If so, then reinstall the printer on the problem PC, perhaps even clearing out and reinstalling the drivers.

-You may also want to manually assign an IP address to the printer. This address must be within the same "range" as the rest of the network. Since your router is probably assigned 192.168.1.1, and DHCP auto-assigns your PC 192.168.1.100, make the printer 192.168.1.20. This way, the printer has the same address every time the PC goes looking for it.

-Make sure you don't have a second firewall on the affected PC. Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security and many other "all in one" security packages sometimes throw a firewall in there without your knowledge. See if you can "ping" your PC from another computer on the network, and can you "ping" the printer from the problem PC?

Hope this helps!
