Make sure you are inserting the correct cartridges for your model. The Lexmark X5470 uses 32 or 34 black cartridge and the 33 or 35 color cartridge.
Try to follow the steps below to identify and fix the problem:
Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges. Check the encoder strip (transparent strip usually found behind the cartridge carrier) and make sure it has not gotten unseated from its position.
Close the cover. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it.
When the printer turns on, check for any errors on the printer display screen. If "alignment problem" error appears, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.
If no error appears, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the cover and check for errors.
Reinsert the other cartridge.
Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear. It may be faulty. You may also try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the cartridge you're currently using is defective.
If the problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.
Try to remove the color cartridge from the printer and manually clean the cartridge nozzles with a damp paper towel. Here's a link to the Lexmark website to guide you on how to manually clean the nozzles http://bit.ly/9wzuAL. If this fails, maybe the cartridge has defective contacts. If this is the case, I suggest you contact Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance. Thanks.
“Lexmark does not support the refilling of its ink cartridges. Refilling the ink cartridges can cause them to leak, thus clogging or even damaging the print head. Any damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges may not be covered under warranty”. Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.
I would like to inform you that Lexmark printers does not support refilled cartridges. Please note that #33 cartridge is know as a rushmore cartridge and in this cartridge it has memory chip on it to identifiy the ink estimation. hence it is not possible to change the low ink indication.
Please note: using refilled cartridge may void ur printer warranty.
