Question about Onkyo DV-SP500 DVD Player

Open Question

Onkyo DV-SP500 It's not been used for 3 years. Just reconnected it. Power light is on, but nothing on the display. DVD drawer doesn't open (not even a sound. If i press "play" the TV detects it and changes channel ready to play, then goes back to TV channel as no DVD is there to play. So the player is communicating with the TV in some way.Any ideas, as it was working when we put it away?

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Remote control via RI terminal on Onkyo Receiver

Not sure I can solve, but maybe help. I am having a similiar problem. However, make sure you Analog Audio (RCA type) cable are connected even if using Digital connection between the two. They use those cable to send the Commands (Mentioned in the documentation).
If you did get yours to work, please give me a hint... I upgraded mine from a 603 to a 701 and haven't been able to get it to work since.

SOURCE: Onkyo DV-SP301 DVD player stuck in standy mode

Had an Onkyo DV-SP301 that would only intermittently come out of standby. Found faulty resistor R2 on the power supply board (board ORTP-865), it was nominally 5600 ohms, measured much higher. This after checking most p/s caps! R2 runs warm when unit is in standby, so you may want to replace with a higher power rated resistor. I used same rating but 10 k ohm instead, worked fine then.

The remote for my sp-500 no longer works,so I ordered a new one which does not work either. Whats the problem?

If the actual remote has been ruled out as the problem about all that remains is the remote receiver in the set---I will attach a photo of a typical one--part is usually less than 3/8 inch tall and may not have the metal frame in the picture--3 leads is most common.
It receives the signal from the remote and routes it to the unit.12_21_2012_4_51_13_pm.jpg

Pioneer DVD player DV-220v-K not responding to Open Drawer command

This is a mechanical problem and will only get worse, caused by gear ware timing issues, or jamming.

The Onkyo DV-CP706 changer doesn't seem to complete its boot-up whenever turned on. The console display says "OnkyO DvD" and nothing else. The monitor display indicates "No Disc"...

Hello, I am sorry about you issue. It sounds like your player needs to be serviced. I have included a link to search for an authorized service center. Thank you, Onkyo USA

Dvd "drawer" will not close.

Hello,

The reason the drawer will not shut is because there is a problem on the mechanism that opens and closes the disc tray.

To fix this,

Get the appropriate screwdriver, unscrew the cover, you'll see a mechanism by the side of the opening, you'll see a rubber that controls the opening and closing of the door.

Try to replace the mechanism and it will be in good condition again.

take care

DV-C501 MECHA ERROR

I have actually had the same problem multiple number of times now and am going to suggest you a rather "crude sounding" solution!! First, atleast in my case the problem usually occurs when you turn the DVD player off while it still has DVD/CD inside and then turn it back on a little while later. This is how the "solution" works. I just disconnect the player and give it a good shake !! This somehow dislodges the "stuck" disc inside and voila, the player opens up after reconnecting and pressing the open/close button. Sometimes it takes more than one "good shake". Sounds rather severe but works everytime !!
